Favorite Drum Intros

My list is based on memory as I do not have access to my music collection right now.

These are some of my favorite drum intros. They may be flashy, they may be simple, short, long…whatever. I just like ‘em.

Tommy the Cat – Primus – Herb
Question and Answer – Pat Metheny Trio – Roy Hanes
Salt Peanuts – Bird and Dizzy – Sid Catlet (I think)
Jamaica, When the Levy Breaks – Led Zeppelin – Bonzo
Magalenha – Sergio Mendes – Carlihos Brown (Vai Quem Vem)
Four – Miles Davis – Philly Joe Jones
El Gaucho – Wayne Shorter – Joe Chambers
Starry Eyes, Live Wire – Motley Crue – Tommy Lee
I Love it Loud – Kiss – Eric Carr
Man in the Suitcase – The Police – Stewart Copland
Helpless – as performed by Metallica – Larz
God Make Me Funky – The Headhunters – Mike Clark
Palm Grease – Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters – Mike Clark
Birthday – The Beatles – Ringo
Grand Canyon Sunrise – Paul Winter – Glen Velez
É Luxo Só – João Gilberto – don’t know
No Excuses – Alice In Chains – Sean Kinney

Apache - The Incredible Bongo Band
Walk this Way - Aerosmith
Impeach the President - The Honey Drippers
Soul Dressing - Booker T and the M.G.s

+ many, many more.

The good thing about old hip hop was, it introduced us kids to all these amazing drummers. It also brought back the sound of real drums to modern recordings.

+1 for both.

And my favourite 'sound-of-flagellation-turned-into-a-simple-but-great-drum-intro' *...

NIN - Mr Self-Destruct

* are there any others in this category?

Didn't "Money For Nothing" have a fantastic Omar Hakim drum intro - I seem to remember it that way? It kinda built to a cressendo then THAT guitar riff came in.
Neat.
