Talking Official Help GM5K Choose/Put Together an Ebay Drumset Thread

title really says it all. looking to have a nice vintage drumset for the studio

if you'd like to help me find the drumset of my dreams for a nice price, that'd be awesome. im down for finding a full set as well as putting a set together piece by piece/couple of pieces at a time.

thought it'd be cool to make a thread about finding the right set and then posting pictures, samples, all that good stuff. well like i said, if you're bored and feel like helping out a drums noob, feel welcome to do so

I am Drummer(24 years) and Home Recording Enthuseist(17 years). I'd be happy to help if I can. I just have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Price Range (overall final end price).
2. Do you also need cymbals?
3. Any brand you would prefer to have/not have?
4. By vintage do you have a year in mind that you don't want to go past?
5.(Most importantly) Sizes you want or need(Kick size, how many rack toms,
floor tom sizes?)?

thanks for your response. very much appreciated

1. would like to keep it at $1000 and under(not counting cymbals)
2. yep
3. the Ludwig/Gretsch kits seem to do it for me as far as slut factor
4. not really, as long as the kit sounds great thumbsup
5. hard for me to say on this one as far as sizes, as like i said im pretty nooby to all this stuff. just want a kit that can sound good in many different styles since it would be the main studio kit. i would like 3 toms to start out with.

While not vintage, these 6ply birch are killer tone monsters. When tuned properly they require virtually NO eqing. As you can see this is a pretty good deal and lacks a snare, but has the 3 toms.

looks great, but im very hesitant to bid on anything on ebay that doesn't offer $2,000 back through paypal...even if the guy does have a nice rating. the guy does have a business though, giving out his address and phone number...

how much would this go for new? thanks!

what about something like this?

Vintage white Ludwig combo drum set - (eBay item 230182386639 end time Oct-23-07 17:33:34 PDT)

no snare, but the price is right and i can add on. i like the white. what do you think?

i do wonder why the price is so low though for 3 toms and a bass drum.

i also remember reading on here that the ludwig 3 ply's are the ones to look for.

probably cause the toms are concert toms (no bottom heads) and the rack toms are both 12" the depths are different but not enough to matter. New those Pearl would go for around a grand.

well the drumset and snare are on their way...now im trying to decide on cymbals.

im liking the sound of the Paiste 2002 20" ride and a Zildjian 14" New Beats hihat pair...anyone want to try and deter me from getting these?

i am still looking for that ever so elusive studio drum kit:(
i am really leaning to a small Jazz kit and keeping my Ludwig kick and snare drums.
