Need Single Drum Pad + Brain for Live Handclaps Etc.

I'm trying to setup the simplest of simple units so I can do handclaps and extra sounds at live shows. I'd love if I could just buy a V-Drum grey pad and hook that into a simple brain where I could store sounds and such. I'm not looking for one of those big flat panels with 6 or so sectors on it.

Is this possible? If not, what's the simplest alternative so I can get some samples while playing live, triggered off an external pad? Thanks!

How much to spend? The Roland SPD-S may suit your needs. It has nine pads.

Here's a used one for sale about $100 off the new price:

the roland tmc is the smallest most affordable trigger brain that is still in production. the drum kat people used to make a thing called the MIDI KITI which was similar and cheaper if you find a used one. any old pad will work with either brain, even homemade pads.

that being said, i decided to skip the brain entirely. i made a reaktor patch that takes the input signal from my kick drum trigger and triggers samples within reaktor. that was the REAL cheap and easy way for me.

I use a Roland SPD-s both with my Roland TD3 electronic kit and with my acoustic kit.

But in all honesty I find the SPD-s to be to small so I'm expanding it with a larger triger pad that I'll plug into it.

If I where in your shoes thekak I would buy one of the Roland mesh practice pads either the rmp-5 or rmp-3. Audition the clap sounds befor you buy. The size of the playing surface and the fact that the mesh head triggers are fun to play on AND the multifunctionality of these things makes this a no brainer IMO.
