Thread Starter | Puresound Snares on Supraphonic Hi, I'm just thinking about replacing the original Ludwig snares on my Ludwg Supraphonic 5"/14 with Puresound snares. Anybody done that ? Is it worth the money ? If so, which size would be best. wolfgang

| Please save everything original and sell it with the original snare when you're done with it. |

I'd just take the original wires to the drum shop or even GC and match the wire thickness to whatever is closest in the Puresound line. It will probably be worth it. All the snare wires that came with my snares (except the Craviotto) were generic crap and the PS made a big difference.

Also you do need to save the original snares. Not that it makes a world of difference but if you decide to sell it, having it original will be a big plus!!! Good luck and report back! Michael Greene

| In my opinion a Supraphonic sounds best with the original Ludwig snare wires. They provide a nice quick snap and are largely part of the classic Supra sound. I've tried lots of snare wires on different drums and keep coming back to 20-strand steel wires... Pearl makes good ones... about as close as you can get to the Ludwig Supra wires... generally. Heavier darker wires provide, yes, you guessed it, a darker sound... with less snap and less detail... but I guess it's all subjective, apples and oranges. All depends on how you tune your snare, how you play it, style of music, etc, etc.... Hey, anyone getting rid of original Supra snare wires, I'll take `em!!! Seriously. |

| I have a old Supraphonic and I was very pleased with the improvement the Puresound wires made. I was always skeptical of even the concept of premium snares, but I bought them on impulse on "payday" as it were, and I am glad I did. I long ago discarded the 'original' snare wires. oops. Just like I no longer have the 'original' heads. ![]() That's OK - to hell with all that "collector" thinking, I plan to use my Supra, set up the way I like it, til the day I die. My heirs will just have to deal.
