5 days to go: Happy New January will end on the 31st.

I'm also happy to announce the launch of the MIXOSAURUS Support Forum. It has only been activated a few hours ago so there isn't much to read yet, but if you have questions you'd like to have answered by other MIXOSAURUS users, then that's the place to go.

Kind regards,
Uwe

€ 348

what in dollars? after shipping/customs/etc?

And what capacity is the hard drive, how much is available on it, and can I use it for storing other files? How loud is the drive's motor/fan?

I used xe.com to do a rough currency conversion.
348 Euros = approx US$516, give or take a buck or two.

No idea on your other questions, Peeder, my unit hasn't arrived yet.
Hope that's partially helpful.

Peace,
- Kevin

Peeder,

the ones I usually use are Samsung's T166 160GB drives which are very fast, don't get hot and are quiet. The enclosure is fanless and aluminum. I can use a different drive if desired, it's actually customizable as I build unit by unit. Just ask, tell me your preference (you should only pick drives that you know are fast... unless you plan to move the stuff to your internal drive(s) anyway which you can do). Of course, picking a TB drive or a Raptor wouldn't work at the same price, but you already guessed that. Other options - ask.

best regards,
uwe

Hello,

I'm happy to announce the release of the MIXOSAURUS DAW Drums Kit A v1.1 Update, available as of now.

The update is FREE for all MIXOSAURUS users and can be downloaded from MIXOSAURUS.com.
v1.1 brings a few new features to Kit A, significantly expanding its range of possible applications:

- new "eco" instruments with lower RAM requirements and faster loading times (down to 1/7 of the full patches)
- built-in ability to understand MIDI drum tracks of almost any format you can think of
- optimized performance tuning options now allow to run Kit A at small audio buffer settings (e.g. 64 samples on a MacBookPro)
- e-drum playability (with live monitoring of Kit A!)

Check out MIXOSAURUS | Expert Virtual Drums for DAW Music Production | Berlin, Germany for details. The full v1.1 Update Manual can be freely downloaded from the site's Help/Downloads section.

Here's a little example of some wild TD-12 drumming to illustrate how well it performs with an e-drum.
The MP3 contains two passes of the same performance - the first is the "full mix" version with all tracks, Alternating Samples and some plugin processing active, while the second pass is the Kit A monitor sound that the drummer heard in his headphones while playing ("ecoT" patch, no effects added).

NOTE: NOT A SINGLE MIDI EDIT has been made to this track - it is exactly as it left the TD-12's MIDI output. This is the pure Kit A's TD-12 Translation.

Kind regards,
Uwe

The MIXOSAURUS.com online store has been updated with selectable shipping methods and with a "bare (internal) drive only" product version, which both allow you to now save up to a total of 170,- US $ / 105,- € compared to the "Full Box, FW800/eSATA" version.

The "bare drive" product is NOT a cut-down, feature-limited cripple of the real deal - it's the full 122GB library with all the MIXOSAURUS features, articulations and mic tracks available, shipping pre-installed on a 3.5" 160GB internal SATA-II drive together with the printed Kit A Manual (English). By default, we're using the same Samsung drives that have proven to be quiet, cool and fast enough for the streaming demands in our FW800/eSATA product, but you're free to specify a different model (and formatting PC/Mac) if you prefer.

Check MIXOSAURUS.com for prices and shipping times.

Kind regards from Berlin, Germany
Uwe

To all the Slutz,

I'm happy to announce that MIXOSAURUS has been awarded with the "Editor's Choice" label of Musician's Life, one of the leading online communities of musicians in Germany. As stated on the ML website, this label is given to "exceptionally good products that stand out from the rest".

Editor Jürgen Drogies was particularly surprised by KIT A's variability : "The sounds are so flexible - they will do well in almost any musical style; you can carry out soft & tasteful drumming as well as a really heavy sound ... I haven't found the 'one Kit' concept to be a limitation at all".

Those who can read German might check out the full review here. The others can at least spot a picture of me and Heidi :-)

Thanks for reading,
best regards from Berlin!

New Demo Video online

MIXOSAURUS.com has been updated with a new video to demonstrate the versatility of Kit A.
Potential buyers have told us about their worries whether a single drumkit can serve many different musical styles, so we produced this 4-pieces-in-one demo which uses nothing but the "Standard Kit" preset: neither the Kick Drum beater, the Snare muffling nor the Overhead Setups change, and there isn't even an extra reverb on the drums - all things drums in there are Kit A, "Standard Kit" preset. Check out the video to see for yourself that it's all playing in realtime with the parameters tweaked by automation.

Thanks for reading,
kind regards from Berlin!

Hi 'slutz,

I'm pleased to announce that MIXOSAURUS has cracked the #1 spot of German album charts with Thomas Godoj and his "Plan A!" album, reaching GOLD status immediately at chart entry for more than 100,000 copies sold.
The Sony/BMG album was produced by multi-platinum producers Valicon who used real drums except on the title track for which they chose MIXOSAURUS - the only virtual drum software they allowed onboard.

In case you're interested, check out "Plan A!" on iTunes.

best,
uwe

That's great Uwe, congratulations. Anyone know how to make iTunes go back to English? I listened to the song and now everything on iTunes is in German

On his latest Release "Freiheit", German Rapper Curse teams up with another Heavyweight Champion of German music, Silbermond. They bring us "Bis zum Schluss", an emotional rap track driven by a fat, punchy beat - and guess what, it's the MIXOSAURUS Snare Drum that they have used to create it. Be sure to check it out!

Which one are you talking about Mixosaurus, BFD2 or something else?

Also, can you import non-drum samples into the Kontact Sample Player provided with Mixosaurus?

Uwe / Mixosaurus is in Berlin - given that's also the subject of the thread, the above poster is no doubt talking about Mixosaurus being the best drum library out there.

I'll second that notion.

Kontakt Player 2 is a general purpose sample player, so it should be able to play other sample instruments as well. Unless I'm mistaken, you should be able to download the player from NI and test what it'll do for you.

Enjoy!

Hi.

yes, thanks kwaehner i did indeed mean Mixosaurus.

hakim - your question about loading non packaged samples into the player:

I didn't check that functionality, but based upon other such libraries that have used the Kompakt player in the past, such as East West SOrchestra and Stormdrum, is that loading in other samples is not supported.

Cheers

Actually, I shouldn't say Best "Drum Library" so much as Best "Virtual Drum Instrument".

Bit of a distinction there, between something that has loads of different samples of different kits and such, vs something that a few kits, but still loads of samples and options, and takes the cake as the most realistic performance tool, etc...

Hello everybody,

thanks for discussing. Thanks Kevin and R3K - hope everything is alright with you and yours in fire-ridden LA!

Speaking of LA: I will be attending the NAMM show in January and I invite you to meet me there. We're not exhibiting but you can check out MIXOSAURUS on my mobile setup... if you're many, we might even organize a group demo (anybody have or know a place?). I'll be happy to answer questions, show users a few programming tricks, whatever you like. You might even send me a few bars of your drum-less audio and I'll bring the drums along so you can experience the real thing in a mix.

If you're interested - yell. I'll be in Anaheim, CA from Jan. 15th-19th.

best,
Uwe

Hello all - better late than never, I'd like to wish you all a very Happy New NAMMuary and all the best for 2009! Here's the latest MIXONEWS:

HAPPY NEW NAMMUARY!

As you know, MIXOSAURUS DAW Drums will be attending the NAMM Show 2009 in Anaheim, California. What you might not know yet is that we celebrate this premiere with a 25% discount on KIT A (valid for all purchases before February). There won't be a MIXOBOOTH this year but we invite you to meet with us on the show floor or any other place in and around Anaheim. If you're interested to see/hear MIXOSAURUS in action, talk to me, listen to KIT B preview audio files or for any other reason, send me a PM to my Gearslutz account or email namm@MIXOSAURUS.com so we can arrange a meeting (if we don't meet anyway at the Gearslutz dinner: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-mu...ay-1-17-a.html ).

--------------------

UPCOMING RELEASE - KIT B

Scheduled for release in later Spring 2009 is MIXOSAURUS KIT B: "B" as in Big ... Boom ... Bubinga! We've set up a fine TAMA Starclassic Bubinga kit in the big, ambient Teldex Lounge, fitted it with EVANS heads and completed the package with a set of Cymbals by various manufacturers that were all hand-selected by me. Going for a heavy, robust and guaranteed-to-cut-through sound we use larger drum and cymbal sizes this time (e.g. 19' and 20' Crashes/China, and a 16' Bubinga Floor Tom ... ugh!), and on top of the great Teldex Reverb Chamber you also get 'classic' Ambience Mic tracks.

--------------------

I'll attach audio clips to this thread (or post links when they're up online) later.

all the best,
looking forward to seeing you in Anaheim!
Uwe
