Slingerland Drums

Has anyone tried the new Slingerland kits?
I can get very good prices on them and would like to hear opinions on them.

Thanks.

They've been in and out of business several times over the last 15 years. People pay big bucks for the reissue Radio King snares, they seem to be made like the old ones (1-ply, steam bent, etc) but I know nothing about the newer sets except they didn't sell well.

I have had good experience with Slingerland kits. They are pretty solid.

If I get 50% discount why not getting a new one?

Because an old set will slay it in sound. May even run you less then 50% off new.

its difficult to judge something properly when you find a good deal like that. trust your ears and ask yourself if you REALLY like the sound of it. try a few other kits at the same time if possible to get a good perspective. and yeah, old kits are often a lot cheaper than brand new top of the line ones.

by the way, do you happen to know any vintage drum stores in france?

Looking at thta link it mentions "The shell has a custom lay-up laminate configuration to give the drum more consistent response and strength - strong enough to make a sound-dampening reinforcement ring and internal strength rings unnecessary." This is all well and good, and may make for a good sounding drum set. But, it will NOT sound like a vintage Slingerland drum set. The reinforcing rings and fairly round baring edges of the old Slingerland sets are a mojor part of the sound.

Ive recorded the newer ones..
Nothing groundbreaking, they sound just like a nicely made kit with new Keller shells.
My buddy had an edorsement deal and got a couple sets from them, told me they do use Kellers
classic looks.but not the old slingy sound
nice drums..waay overpriced for what they are,but with the discount could be a decent way to go.
I put a nice set together just like that for a friend with after market slingy lugs /hoops/BDP wrap for about 700 bucks..
