How to make the john feldmann drum sound???

Like TLA, CLA, McNeely, Feldmann, Ben and so on...

Can I get similar results without using kick and snare samples?

john feldmann's drum sound consists of samples, samples, and more samples. so really you need is soundreplacer or drumagog, and a set of samples that sound like what you want. i would reccommend the steven slate samples that were featured on gearslutz.

sample the snare, Gate it, eq the crap out of it, squash the crap out of it with a limiter. At this point you should have a hard short blat noise. Then chuck abit of verb on it. It's got quite abit of bottom mic in it too. As far as the rest of the kit goes, sample toms and kick, find some samples that sound like his stuff.. and your there..

While I certainly would be stupid to tell you NOT to use samples, I will say that it is a good idea to REALLY get to know drums. Recording them, mixing them, eqing them, compressing them. Figure out how the different kinds of processing can effect them, learn to get the desired results that you want.

I definitely agree with Bang, but the John Feldman sound is basically samples and compression.

Excuse me, Mr Chris, but have we met? I know a drummer called Chris Jones. Maybe you're not a drummer though.

Not a fan of his use of samples! have you heard story of the year"until the day i die" sounded so thin even with his samples. For samples i would recommend steven slate samples.
