| Beat Detective? We just keep having problems with beat detective and I am praying someone may know of an alternative (other than a perfect drummer). Thanks, heathrobson@hotmail.com |

| It's not that BD does not work.. we are just looking for alternatives. We have a wandering drummer and a lot of tracks to correct. BD seems to choke our resources with the massive amounts of edits that are all right on top of each other. We keep getting the pinwheel of death. We re-booted and checked our system (PT HD 7.0) and it seems fine. |

| alternative is always re-tracking. sorry. that's probably out of the question. You can consolidate sections where you have done the detecting. That would help. You could also try to get rid of audio not being used. I don't like doing that but had to do it last weekend.

| My suggestion is to Beat detective in small amounts. Do 4-16 bars at a time...fix it, then consolidate that section and move on to the next batch...it'll take awhile, but it'll help.

| as far as i know there isnt a replacment to beat detective. There are otherways to do it (more manually using time streching and a grid) but as for a program that is dedicated to correcting timing on multitrack drums i dont think there is one. Cubase has hitpoints but that is no good for multitrack drums...i dunno about logic. A technique i used to use (b4 i knew BD existed) was to group the drums and make a cut just b4 all the out of time hits. just b4 the transient and after. then move it in time moving all the mic tracks of that perticular hit (oh,amb, snr, kick, toms, etc) . if it went back i would then time stretch it to fill the gap between the next hit. then i would kut the transient just behind it and time compress that so it wouldnt overlap and end right where the next hit began. This way you dont get any portion of audio missing so no unatural sounding kuts and clicks. Its also different to BD because its using timestreching to fill gaps and timecompression to close gaps where as i beleive BD uses crossfading and reverse crossfading to fill and close the gaps.....anyways it worked really well for me. u need to have good ear for timing and a half decent knowledge on drum timing but you do for BD aswell anyway...only thing is it takes a bit longer than BD...................................... hope that all made sense.....kinda weird to explain |
