| 500 series nutjob | cymbals ? any one care to go into what different cymbals sound like. as in size small cymbals have a ''x'' caricature and larger ones have a ''Y'' caricature. bell size large, small, or no bell. how dose this effect the overall sound? thick thin? any way are their any basics here or is it all just random?

| Pan60 You might want to do a google search on cymbal history, and also check out Paiste, Sabian, Agop, Zildjian, Saluda, etc. and see what they have to say. In short, all the factors you mentioned have a drastic effect on the sound of the cymbal. It would take me forever to go into details. If you have a local music store that stocks a decent variety of cymbals, go try them. You'll get a better understanding of what sounds like what and why. ![]() |

| 500 series nutjob | no offense but, i do not plan on a google, or a trip to the local music store. i this would be a good topic for all the great drummer we have hear. |

There are also sub-groups, like ping rides, dry rides, etc. They each have their "best suited for" job, but no two cymbals sound exactly alike.
