Cubase 7.5

While many folks wish Cubase 7 never shipped, I'm eagerly awaiting 7.5. Why? Because I'm told (by Steinberg and Antelope) that it will contain a fix for the egregious incompatibility of Cubase with the Orion 32. I can work around the problem, but it's a big PITA and slows me down a lot.

Since there's no official word on 7.5 I figured we should try the crowdsourcing approach. When do you think Cubase 7.5 is going to drop? Vote! And let's see what the wisdom of the crowd tells us.

Whenever it is, Steinberg ought to give a bit more information about what upgrade path people are buying into if they buy or upgrade to Cubase 7 right now. The upgrade cost is increasing by $100 for 6.5 to 7 and 6.0 to 7 in a few days. It will cost $299 to go from 6.0 to 7.0 after October 15th and $249 to go from 6.5 to 7.0. How long is that good for before the next paid upgrade comes forward? A substantial change in upgrade scheme should include some guidance to the future in order to avoid customer confusion.

They don't have to do it, of course, but neither do current customers need to pay for an upgrade. It's just good customer relations to keep upgrade schemes predictable, and then be clear about what value comes with a new higher pricing scheme.

Come on, guys. Crowdsourcing doesn't work if there's no crowd. Just take a guess.

My guess would be the grace period for a free update to 7.5 starts with the new pricing (thus the higher price).

Which would mean we're 6 weeks max away from 7.5.

I'm thinking 7.5 may bring more synths or 3rd party plugins like the Voxengo match eq. Or either they may give us those channel strip emulations they made a while back. I don't think they did well, but to get them bundle with low CPU over head what be a great value.

Why does the Steinberg website show the 6 to 7 upgrade as costing $199, but then it shows up as $249 in the shopping cart? This is for both the download and the boxed versions.

You must click on the proper version you're upgrading from to see a change in price.

Yep, I did that, 6 ---> 7, and it lists the price as $199 on the main page, but then the price is $249 in the cart. So I got it somewhere else...with the price increase deadline today, I didn't want to take the chance of it going up to $299.

If they bring more synths, it will probably be an unfinished version of another Cubase synth, that they will eventually flesh out and include in a Halion update.

Love Cubase, love Halion, but I'm starting to see how "efficient" they are with their content.

I'm in southern California, and no, I didn't delete the cookies nor empty the cache...it looks like somebody jumped the gun on the price increase - as I mentioned, it said $199 on the product page, and $249 in the cart...repeatedly.

Hello,

Then, please empty your cookies and clear the cache, then tray again.
As the prices in the kart should be the same as on the main shop page.

Best regards,

Well, uh...I appreciate your input, and thank you for your time...but the price on the main page is now $249, and I'm sure that the price in the cart will be the same. The point was trying to purchase it for $199...before, as indicated on the Steinberg website, the price increase. For the record, just saying, it's pretty shady that the price was higher in the cart before the "deadline" that Steinberg stated on their official site...and when I tried to call the "contractual partner" (the phone number on the website) to inquire as to why there was a price discrepancy, I got connected to a recording and then a person who excitedly informed me of the fact that I qualified for a FREE CRUISE...seriously...100% the truth. I have used Cubase for about 12 years, and I love it and am very happy with it...but this is pretty shady...or, in German, nicht gut...

I think for a 7.5 they will implement some new stuff and it will not be for free. Maybe a bit like 6.5. People waiting that Steinberg will finish the mixer console stuff and starts with the project window and IMO this will be a part of the long awaited new window management.
So I expect a 7.5 or 8.0 at Musikmesse (March 2014)

VCA Groups
More channel linking options (specially linking individual inserts/sends)
Move channels in the mixer
More color options for the mixer
Add multiple blank FX channels
More plugins/synths
Yada
Yada
Yada
And a boatload of bugfixes

They better deliver A LOT of things to make this paid upgrade worth it.

7.5 needs VCA's and linked automation editing to get £50 out of me.

Otherwise I'll wait until Cubase 8

I'm always happy to pay £150 for a major revision, but a point revision needs to have something substantial.

I never bought 6.5 only 6.

The way the upgrades are set up, you may still end up paying the $50

dont see a reason why they should wait for C 8 for VCAs
if they cant make it happen now without a rewrite

They waited until 4.1 to implement easy SC, and only with VST3, so...
