cubase 7 upgrade

I paid $200 on steinbergs site to go from cubase 5.5 to 6.5 thinking this was the way to get from 5.5 to 7. it is another $150 from 6.5 to 7. Sweetwater shows the upgrade from 5 to 7 as $250. currently I am looking at a $350 up grade from 5.5 to 6.5, then from 6.5 to 7 as opposed to a $250 upgrade from 5 to 7. I don't particularly want to pay $100 extra dollars if I don't have to. I still have the unopened box, should I return it to steiny and save $100 bucks going from 5 to 7 through sweetwater?

Thanks for the help. This upgrade seems anything but straight forward.

No! If you upgrade before the 5th Dec there is a grace period. So you get version 7 for free!, on the 5th via a download. Important you must activate your 6.5 update!!

I haven't activated my 6.5 yet, does that mean I missed out on the grace period? I thought it was anytime after Oct 25???

Yeah, I saw that and figured I would be ok, then found this thread and wondered if I missed something.
