I might as well go ahead and pony up I'll buy it anyway.
I want to use it at home.
I wonder if it will open NU 5.5 files so I could do clean up work at home?

They should allow you to dl it too since you bought it anyway.

Let's hope it'll ship in the next couple of days, not after christmas.

Installed C7 last night
Not impressed at all. Interface seems way more slugish, mixer is just plain S L O W, robbing way to much screen estate and being an eyesore for sends and inserts
The new channlstrip doesn't feel tactile either. And using the H & G keys to get everything back into readable state blows up your mixer to teletubbie dimensions
The whole new colourscheme is SHITE can't see gridlines properly in pianoroll view

And the whole new GUI just feels morry blurry and slow. I liked 6.5 much better
Way more tactile feel, great contrast and ergonomics.
Can i get the 6.5 skin back please?

It sounds great, but workflow and ergonomics are killed!!!

the resizing of mixer is generally fine....but the knobs on the channel strip just stay the same size regardless....eventually when the mixer is very narrow they just go all over each other...very messy...

it crashes with kush ubk

seems to have audio drop outs with my babyface too...which just stops working after 20 minutes

with some finessing it will be a nice release but yep there are issues....

Although I work mostly in PT now, I still work on a weekly basis in Cubase. I have been a user since 4 and have always enjoyed the simplicity of work flow, GUI, and much of the VST stuff. I am one who held off on 6.5 and I think I also will wait till the dust settles around 7. I'm gonna wait and see how it plays with OS 10.6.8.

LOL the mixer only "looks like an SSL" if the channel strip section is open... which is an option. Personally, I keep that section closed on my main mixer view.

Yes but even closed, it's not ergonomic AT ALL to do someting simple like enabling an insert, point & click is ruined, all menus are animated, slow, very small click areas, easy to by accident adjustba slider rather than unfolding a menu. Tactile wise it's CRAP and resizeable software resolutions suck. It's much slower, not as sharp as C6

It now looks like NI TRAKTOR on Full screen, ugly software scaling

Though I've got a big display I find everything hard to read in the mixer.

LOL - you may remember me from the 'cubase keeps crashing' thread. Just installed C7 to see if it solved it...and...C7 won't even load - crashes at "Initialising eLc"!

any suggestions? I feel a full clean reinstall of windows 7 coming on....a shame because every other aspect of my system is rock solid, no crashes...just any product by Steinberg!

Just a quick question to the people who are using c7 now...

is it possible to have inserts and sends viewable at the same time in the mixer view? ... if yes, a screenshot would be nice!

thanks!

Thats good news. Now they need to make them viewable at the same time in project view like pro tools. I know you can hold ctrl and click on the inserts and sends tab in the inspecotr lane, but it takes up so much vertical screen real estate that i need to scroll a lot to even see the ins/snd in question, really becoming an obstacle instead of a quick way to access them both per cahnnel. And when you have another tab open like channel controls or whatever, you cant even scroll in the inspector so that the (by now) open sends tab will be viewable.

Utterly stupid! Cant believe steinberg hasnt adressed this in all these years... but maybe in 7 the inspector is scrollable vertically? Maybe someone can try .... like, open up the channel settings, inserts, sends, notes, whatever is there. Youll see you will need to scroll to see the unfolded tabs... but you CANT scroll. Or did they make it scrollable now?? I mentioned this to the product specialist and business development manager and they both didnt know about it. The product specialist was more understanding, while the business guy went all "the importance of that functionality depends on individual preferences" on me,...... i was like... yeah right, just look at how PT does it and then come back to me... .

These first impressions aren't sounding good. Is it not easy to just change to the C5 mixer?

Has anyone installed 7 and continued on about their work, or is there a few days curve?

I did

but i am a simple home studio songwriter. i installed it and i absolutely love the new mixer and how much is in it, how tweakable it is, and how it looks especially

i loaded my ongoing 6.5 project and it opened fine and i kept right on going

and it is def improved CPU and ASIO guard on my mac pro 10.8.2 is playing way smoother than 6.5 did on the same OS on the same buffers on the same song

yamaha n12 works great

eucon works great

gonna take some getting used to as its a big change but for me the new mixer look especially is way way better

i have PT 9, Logic 9, DP8, Reaper and S1 2.5 right next to it here and to me NOW, and it wasnt at all befroe, cubase looks better and is more powerful now in the mixer view than the others. FOR ME

and i left cubase back in the day because i hated how it looked

I am with you! I loaded my project from 6.5 which was starting to bare down on the cpu and now I have been able to unfreeze my vsts and work as if the cpu was upgraded... love the mixer, colors.... slowed my workflow a bit by getting used to inserts and send being right above the channels... in the long run it will increase my speed though.

Mixed a full track today!

Really impressed with the mixer, how it looks/feels/works!

The filters are great !

The tape sat is pretty darn good aswell.

Enjoyed linking the same plug across multiple tracks. Tweaking one parameter and they all followed suit on the others!!!!

I upgraded from 5.5. Had a little look at 6.5 before I installed 7. What the hell did they do to the mixer in 6 Dammmmmmmmmmmm ulgy. Jeeez

No major problems today. Lost the bottom part of the mixer for a while !! Reverence verb crashed once.

Lots more to try!!

hmm. I hadn't known about that bit. Neve 88RS HP filter the whole mix at once? Dear God.

I will be following the same strategy. Wondering how long I should "play" with 6.5.

So when REV crashed, did it crash alone, or does Cubase send you to the desktop with unsaved progress?

I just installed 7 (6 still being installed), and it can't find the sound files for Groove Agent One and REVerence.

Anyone got a sollution to that?

Direct drag and drop from the mediabay to 3rd party plugs like Battery and Kontakt now works in Cubase 7!

The harmonizer is kind of lame for vocals on it's own. I think I'm going to try to try some more automation going on with it next session. Maybe cut it up and 100% Xms delays all over the place will liven it up a bit. It won't sound as good as an actual vocal harmony, I know but it's fun to mess with. I haven't had the chance to test it on a synth or anything yet.

What have been your guy's results?

Have to say I'm very impressed with the new mixer. I actually was not that positive when it was introdused. Seemed to me like to many buttons and to many things happening at once. But for me it is actually the best new function in Cubase 7! When you get to know what it all does and customize the mixers, it all makes sence

Looking forward to play around with the chord assistant.

It's all about having 'tools'. :)

- you don't have to use it if you think you know better
- you could even learn about some progressions you didn't know about in the first place, because a computer does not have preconceptions of "what sounds good"
- people could do this already in Atari times, it's not like it's rocket science
- people have been doing this already since the iPhone was launched, so it's not like it's unique and groundbreaking
- most importantly: if your edge was purely in learning a few obvious progressions by heart, you didn't have an edge anyway

It's like complaining about auto-beatmatching in Traktor; it's a skill that you're supposed to have anyway, and the difference between a perfect transition that's done by a human or a perfect transition done by a computer is negligible. If it was your only skill, you didn't have an edge anyway.

For those that don't know better it'll finally provide a welcome relief from the nth variation on Pachelbel. People are going to be encouraged to find more and different chord progressions rather than what they can achieve now with simple hunt-and-peck over the keyboard.

It's a net positive effect.

So you had to study 10 years, walk in the snow uphill both ways, etc. Congratulations; you have lost nothing of your abilities with this, and the feature to move -everything- including samples is useful in its own right - it offers nice avenues of experimentation.
I agree. I remember the days when people laughed at using electronic 'anything' to do music.

I accept all of these functions from the computer and related programs as 'tools'; nothing more and nothing less. If all I had was a piano and a big room, I'd make music with them. But having orchestras and a recording studio at my fingertips... is a LOT more fun and opens up creative possibilities that the OLD tools would not have.

I know some music theory, but having the electronic scratch-pad to play around on (especially with chord progressions), will surely be inspirational and also educational. If nothing else, I won't have to look in a "chord dictionary" to figure out what my fingers just played. Now, I can play the chord and know what to call it... so I can consider other parts to create around it. Or... share what I just played with other musicians if/when necessary.

Cubase and every other thing I have stuffed into my PC, are just 'tools' to make music; nothing more, nothing less.
