Good advice indeed. Why does that sound so familiar?

For a more through explanation see the sidebar with the same name in my Acoustics FAQ:

I'm Cojo's Salieri

Ok guys....I must admit it. I'm building my new bass traps for my studio using Cojo's design and guideness, so you can say that I'm Cojo's Salieri, but that's one of the reason why we're all here: Learn from each other experience.....so Thanks Cojo.
I'm almost done, so I'll post some pics and comments ASAP.
Cheers

Antonio Salieri was a classical composer who lived and worked in Mozart era. There's a popular saying the he "stealed" some compositions from Mozart or some ideas to compose his music. So when I say I'm a Salieri it means that I'm taking or "stealing" your idea and making it mine

PS: I hope now I explain myself better. Sorry for my english

They are horn speakers - probably from a factory - they work. I'm going to use them for telephone vocals etc - lots of midrange. They have a cool sound. I found them in a second hand shop. 50 kronor.

I found some nice frames, and they were nicely made....except that the measurements are 1" tick x20.5 inches wide x 43.5 in. high and 7.5 in deep.

That means I have to cut the OC703 to fit it.

Is it worth it?? I know I'm saving some time but not having to build them.

Thanks

Quick question.

When you place the 703/705 in the wood frames, wouldn't you want to have enough sheets in there so that they stick out from the frames a bit? That way any reflections would hit the fiberglass first and be absorbed, and not hit the wood.

Hi!

Are you refering to my studio pics?

I have the strips there because they look good and I didn't want to eat too much mid and highs.

I'm sure there are better ways to do this. I haven't finished the room design. I need to treat the ceiling and side walls - front wall and do some measures again.

I'll get back to you!

I was actually referring to cojo's initial picture set. I know it seems nit picky but it would just make sense to have the fiberglass be the first thing any reflections meet and not the wood frame.

Any reflection off the wood would be minimal, especially with thinner frames. 2" of 703 absorbs mid and high freqs darn well...supposedly better than brand name foam products.

Besides that, I think a wood reflection sounds a bit more 'natural' as opposed to 5/8" sheet rock, or brick.

Having more 703/705 would allow a deeper range of frequency absorption, but still, even this is minimal.

A few others here will tell you that besides a few inches of 703/705, an equally important concept is to have an air space behind the trap, which allows for the optiminum absorption from the panel. The space can be adjusted so that trouble freqs are attentuated to your liking or preference.

Refering to Cojo's traps,

The wood frame couldn't be more than 1-2" wide/thick on the front/exposed face.

I would guess that such a small hard reflective exposure would allow more diffusion than it would flutter-echoes.

Actually myself and few other people told Dim that the way he built those corner traps was not correct. He should have not had any kind of wood fronts on them. Now mind you this is Dim, so he is going to go against the grain , but we all love him..
