the measurement mics are omni

No one raised a eyebrow when I said Shure SM81 -

You are probably right - I saw one guy was going to use a SM58 - ha! I think a pretty flat small condenser can work but then again...

Acoustians -please return from the cockpit! We need to erase some "?" from our faces.

OK, so I put them on the wall. Now I have to worry about color sheme. I can worry about colours, because it sounds as it should... nice ;-). It is really pitty I had to cover those holes, but at least (!) it works

Upcomming steps > back wall, a desk/console and rack filling (a favorite part, but the most expensive - y no tengo dinero ahora !que mal!)...

Yes you need an SDC.

Available from Gefell, DPA and others.

This is the cheapest one I have seen so far (Behringer)

http://www.behringer.com/ECM8000/index.cfm?lang=ENG

Not as accurate as the ones mentioned above but it works and certainly more accurate than a 414 B-ULS that flat it ain't at all

I think the buls are pretty flat haha - anyway - you are right I think I'll buy that crap Behringer so I can do my measurement. Too much work I don't want to guess if I'm doing ok...

I still haven't treated the ceiling and the front wall But I have a nice white thing going on in the studio... Check it out!

Thanks, but slowly with the superlatives, because I'm far from being satisfied with it aestheticaly, it was (and still is) frustrating in a way.

hey everyone!i'm back in action.

just moved into my new place- got a sweet little room to do some mixing in..and i just purchased the parts to what i think will be a sweet ass machiiiine...(computer)

hey dim...(.) (.) pics look nice dude!

didn't know you must use an omni!
so all my graphs are only half true

i'm not trying to make a perfect room, i'm trying to make perfect mixes!
so as long as i have an idea- i'm not gonna fret that much about an omni mic.

anyways, new room brings new questions!

i have hardwoord floors, and my monitors with my traps just sitting on the floors right now, sound fukkkin' amazing, WAY better than they ever did in carpet rooms.

but i'm knowing, i must build a cloud...

my question is...should i get a little carpet for this room? or should i just skate around in my socks? haha.. all the high end studios i've seen have nice hardwood floors..and i must say my monitors sound very good right now..i was amazed this morning when i hooked them up

what do you acoustic guys say? carpet/no carpet..

Thanks again brother for the kind words - you make me smile here. Please upload new pictures of your new room.

This his how see the carpet, no carpet; (READ THIS AS POETRY, NOT SCIENCE)

I think it's nicer to have a brighter room with some response, nice reverb. The main thing is to control the spots where you get in trouble - first order reflection and control the low end. If you can find a way to control the room response and still have a live sound to the room you are in heaven. I over-treated my old room and I can tell you this: it's no fun - you need some love back from the walls. Not all reflections are evil. My main goal is to have a bold room that works both for tracking and mixing. I really want to get the bass solid - maybe I need to update my monitors - the krk v4 are a bit bass shy, maybe add a sub - I don't know yet. I'm still "under construction".

I think you do better without a carpet - but I have no numbers, proof... Just poetry!

Upload new pix!

no carpet!

and for room-measurements the cheap behringer/audix mics are absolutely okay!!
and way better than any LDC´s or other switchable mics...the more expensive/accurate ones are rather more accurate in the high frequencies (say for measuring speakers/tweeters etc.), for room acoustics the cheap one are absolutely fine, because your room problems will be at least 10x more flawed than the mic

Cool!

I will order the Behringer when I got the money. I wonder if I can use it for something else like kick drum ha! Don't say NO!

Check the thread "upright bass still a PITA" i thought it was called. Han tells there he uses it on upright bass in the bridge if I'm right, and he gets pretty good results!
Should be a thread on its own, about the stellar results everybody gets with the mic!!

So how is your studio treated? It is hard to distinguish the surfaces...

Corners seem like some kind of superchunk with wooden slats...

The front wall is fully absorbtive? and the sides? Or these are just bare walls?

The V4 indeed look small, but can serve the purpouse. I'd expect some tasty mid fields in a room with such a console ;-). That also applies to me, I'd rather have some S4C-A or PMC IB2 or... ... instead S3A, but I may end just with 2 subs added.

The bass is not bad at the moment, quite controled and defined, but I still miss some "massage" time to time ...

I have pulled out all treatment - the only treatment I have is the corner trap. It's mineral wool with particle board stripes and air gaps between every strip. Very simple. Next move is to treat the ceiling and front wall and listen some more before I treat the sides.
