I actually order 2 cases of this yesterday:
http://www.atsacoustics.com/item--Ow...f-6--1004.html

Received it today. I had been using an equivalent manufactured by CertainTeed but was having trouble sourcing it locally this time around. I wrap these panels in fabric (like a birhtday present) and hang them on a wall like a picture. They work great.

I plan to also cut the sheets in half and doubling them up, creating a 2'x2'x4" and hanging them in the corners. Should work well for some bass trapping.

Here's a picture of them hanging in the front of my room:

There's a lot of info on GS about DIY acoustic panels. You can get sheets of OC 703 2" thick for around 10 bucks a sheet, pretty cheap. Just look around your area for insulation dealers who sell Owens Corning. I built a bunch of 4" thick panels using this stuff, and it works fantastic. Do a search for DIY panels, I think you'll find all the info you need.

Hello. I am in the same boat of researching options and recently posted on the High End forum. Probably should have started here.

I talked with GIK (Glenn) and Real Traps (Ethan), and found both to be helpful and really nice folks. My plan was to get some more feedback and do more research.

You have most likely also checked out Auralex. I talked with a guy there who help with a prototype room design. While it was not what I was looking for (too much assembly required...), he was really helpful.

Best regards and thanks for the Ats lead. Will check them out.

i bought raw materials (OC-703 and Jute Burlap) from atsacoustics.com to treat the big room (formerly known as the 'echo box') at a nightclub i started working at a couple months ago.

i ordered 18 2x4 panels (3 cases), and made 24 panels of 2'x2' and 24 panels of 2'x1', cutting them to size with a simple electric carving knife and a metal straight edge. As i had a very large space to treat, roughly 1,000 square feet and all cement walls, i wanted to spread it out as much as i could, hence cutting to smaller pieces.
cost after shipping and with adhesive came to just under $400. they shipped it incredibly fast.

the room sounds great now. i can actually EQ the room with precision now , where as before it was like EQing with a sledgehammer. and at the end of the night no one's ears are ringing. Which says alot because the sound system is incredibly loud.

i highly recommend them if you are on a budget as their prices for the raw materials alone are competitive.

its not necessarily "the same thing for less" though. Burlap is not as visually stunning a fabric as what Glenn is using, but it definitely gets the job done and can look suitable. Sometimes it just comes down to taste.

Philth, Eric, and Adam

Thanks sooo much for the ATS link. These guys appear to be building a quality product at really competitive prices. They have many sizes (the elusive 2' x 2' size--many are 2' x 4' only), and many custom colors.

Will be contacting them tomorrow. Looks promising.

Those panels look great Eric. Keep up the great work.

The world is beginning to understand that super good quality acoustic treatment does not have to cost an arm and a leg.

Those do look nice - good job.

As for the ATS, sure - good place to get 703 but there are cheaper places out there.

Also, personally, when using 703 for corner absorbtion, 6" will work much better and reach much deeper into the bass. We have found that for deeper bass control in a 4" thickness, denser materials work better down low.

Not trying to discourage you in any way. 4" of 703 straddling a corner will definitly help. There are just other premade and DIY options out there that will give better performance.

Agreed, and you can get white Muslin from Joann fabrics for $.99 a yard, which looks MUCH better. Dye it any color you like, a bottle of dye is only about 3 bucks. I don't really understand why anyone would use Burlap...
