Gobo's Acoustic Absorbers Question

For a homemade Gobo or absorber, is it necessary to have 2 2" panels with an air gap in between? I have looked at a lot of threads and plans for Gobo's and Base traps. Some use 2 panels with a gap , some don't. Is there a difference in efficiency or frequency trapping with an air gap?

Thanks

Lightbulb

A single absorber panel can be made from multiple thinner panels, such as two pieces side by side with each two inches thick. But there should not be a space between them. Spacing is for panels attached to walls or the ceiling.
