Thread Starter | Any tips on Making a 6x6 "cloud"? Anyone have any tips for making a 6'x6' cloud? I'm planning on using 3 layers of 2" roxul or owens corning. Thinking of framing it with 1" x 8" boards and I'm trying to come up with an easy way to keep the insulation an inch or two back from the face of the trap to keep the insulation from "sagging" in the middle (maybe chicken wire or something similar?). Also wondering if finding fabric is going to be an issue since most of what I see for sale from the local diy suppliers is 56" wide. |

| Hi mate. I've made some wall mounted bass traps with chicken wire to hold it in. But that's not going to work for you, as it will sag. I suggest making cross frame (wooden) slats across the top. Make them a feature, as trying to hide them .. well, that's hard. An outline of a frame against fabric, will look worse than an asian, or Georgian looking frame over the top. Just a thought.

| Lives for gear | Plastic Chicken wire is fairly nasty. How about some sort of plastic netting. Garden type stuff. A layer of Polyester Batting is cheap and hides bumps. I am pretty sure you will need cross laths as jrakari said. The Newell pattern of 345 would work nicely. So starting from outside... Laths. Fabric. Batting. Plastic mesh. DD |

| I made an 8 x 8 cloud over my drum kit, but I used owens corning 705 to avoid the sag. I would say if you are making it 6 x 6, you could divide the space into 2 x 2 squares and drop an egg crate plastic lighting diffuser under the roxul to help support it. Here is a link to one I saw on line... .375"X2'X4' White Egg Crate

Thread Starter | The lighting diffuser is a great idea! That would greatly reduce the amount of wood needed ![]() |

| If you do run with the defuser idea, please post pix. We'd like to see the proofing of this good idea - could be a big innivation in DIY trapping design :-) Sent from my GT-I9000 using Gearslutz.com |

| When it comes to hanging stuff, if it has anything like wood, I would make sure its fastened to the ceiling rather than having it hang. If it comes down to it and the cloud falls, the wood could land on your neck and leave you injured. Not sure how heavy 1x8's are so I don't wanna say it can break your neck or leave you paralyzed. But you understand what I'm getting at |
