Glueing Fabric to Rockwool vs Building a Frame + Fabric Choice

I see that most people are building frames around the fiberglass/rockwool for acoustic panels, but what are people's opinion on glueing fabric directly?

Also, I see a lot of people using a variety of fabrics, many you wouldn't be able to blow through. I wouldn't imagine that this would help with HF absorption. Is it a bad idea to use a fabric you can blow through on all reflection panels AND bass traps? I obviously don't want to absorb too much HF..

Thanks

Here's what I'll say about gluing versus making a frame... you can glue fabric to fiberglass (depending on rigidity), but the question is how you then attach hardware to hang them up. I tried doing exactly this and even glued a wood strip to the panel to attach picture hanging wire to, but I found that the panel was too heavy and the wood strip and fabric pulled away from the fiberglass. My solution was to put a wood strip on the front and rear, sandwiching the panel between, and screwing them together (through the panel) and glued the fabric back over them. This worked perfectly fine.

i wouldnt recommend covering the holes of a porous material with any sort of glue, spray, etc.

Ooo... good point. I forgot to mention that I only used the spray glue on the back side of my panels. I laid the fabric flat, placed the fiberglass panel(s) on the fabric, and then sprayed a 6" wide "stripe" of glue down the middle of the back to adhere the fabric. That was enough to get the fabric to stay closed around the fiberglass.

I don't think it would work with rockwool and only with the rigid fiberglass panels.
Generally I wouldn't recommend this the results generally tend to look like crap. At least use a frame as a skeleton to maintain form.

Panel Backs

Many of those fibre batts can be bought with FRK or Foil backing on them.
In fact it can be hard to find them without around here.
I suggest leave it on there. It increases rigidity and on 4inch panels my test has indicated a slight LF benefit with no loss of other performance.

And, to topic, it is very easy to glue the fabric to it.
