Activated carbon in studio acoustic treatment?

I'm curious if anyone tried (practically) activated carbon as low frequency sound wave attenuator in studio acoustics?
Some basic information about this material may be found in Cox's and D'Antonio's book "Acoustic absorbers and diffusers"

In all seriousness I urge all GS folks to not support the company linked in post #2. Why? The studio control room images on their home page is not their work. It is the work of my dear friend and brilliant studio designer Bob Suffolk (located in Dallas).

Backstory- I received a spam e-mail from this company and checked out their site. Shocked, I see the work of my friend...I know this room and I know for 100% truth that the products of this company are NOT in this space. Long-story short...a third party actually received permission to use these images from the studio owner and then sold the images (to my understanding) to this company. I, of course, contacted my friend Bob who contacted the company. The coldly state that they own the images but relented to give Bob's firm a credit....that to me is far from ethical. Bob has established fantastic work in the field of studio design since his very first effort at Trident in London in the early 80's...now this spam filled company is "making hay" with his imagination and hard earned knowledge...NOT RIGHT.

I've seen in the mastering thread how "lo-life" start-ups steal images and launch false front sites. I think of this company in the same light and challenge them to prove otherwise.

That is as direct as I will EVER state this. Boggy's OP is of great interest to me as well. I just could NOT let this pass.
