Thread Starter | Are these Bass traps or Speakers?
hi all. I recently acquired two boxes, about 5" x 5" and chest height. Inside these boxes (which are covered in speaker carpet) are angled wood, covered in foam. There is a hole at the top of the rectangle box, and one at the bottom. I would assume these are bass traps, but one box has the hard ware to mount a speaker grill over the hole, which is confusing. Again, I've had trouble googling "tall rectangular bass trap / speaker" and a variety of other variations. If anyone can help me with a keyword / point me in the right direction I'd be grateful! krinj. |

Too thin to be bass traps IMO. I would assume they are custom / DIY speaker boxes. When you say holes on the top and bottom, do you literally mean on the 5" x 5" squares on the top and bottom there's circles cut out (like, if they were standing up, its standing on one of the holes?) Or do you mean on one of the sides of the longer rectangle, theres holes cut out near the top and bottom, but on the side of the box? |

hey Guys, thanks for the posts. If they were standing upright, the hole on one end would be out the top of the box (facing sky). This is also the whole that on one of them, had the hardware that would ordinarily mount a speaker grill (but a small 4" driver size). The other hole (on the bottom if upright) is actually on the side, about 1 or 2 inches off the bottom (and with no hardware at all. I find it hard to imagine them as speakers, but I guess that's what they might be?? |

They almost sound like Magnepan (Magneplanar) speakers... might be an older version?
