| Gear interested | OC 703FRK Question
Hi guys. Have been experimenting with different absorbtion solutions in the mix room of my project/home-studio for about a year now. Has been a tremendous learning process (still learning), and this site has provided a ton of great guidance. Mix room is 12L x 10W x 9H. I am currently finishing 4" 703 traps for the corners using some panel frames I originally constructed (picture below-ignore the sonocolumn... was getting it off the floor and out of the way). There will be at least a 6-8" gap behind the trap in the corner. Here's my question. Essentially I have 2" 703FRKs that I'm going to stack with another non-FRK OC 703 and then wrap. Before I get started I've read in numerous places that the foil should be turned out - and as such will provide some mid and high reflection - and it should never be at the back of the trap. The very tight corner in the second pict is another question all-together. Any guidance would be appreciated. ![]() Last edited by S Hardin; 19th December 2011 at 04:12 PM.. Yes you want to have the FRK facing out in the room. It will act as a membrane that will reflect some upper frequencies and help absorb a bit more low frequencies.

Glenn, would using FRK on a cloud be preferred or not? Also, does it only need to be the first piece, or does it have to be all of them?

It only needs to be the first piece facing into the room. If your room still has flutter echo at all, you can just use unfaced 703. The FRK is usually recommended when your room has good control of the high-end already, and you just need more bass absorption. ie, need more traps, but don't want the room to sound "dead"

As far as facing for other areas you want to only have it on the front that is facing the room. | |
