what is the typical spoken voice frequency?

what is the frequency range of the typical male speaking voice? i'm at the point where i need to pick materials for the interior of my studio. i need a large coverage area (1300 square feet) and i'm trying to avoid overkill but i also don't want to waste my money with inappropriate treatments.

thanks .

i have searched online, and what i'm finding is it is around 125 hertz... of which rockwool (the 2.5 lb sold at home depot) isn't very effective at stopping. the coefficient is pretty low at this level for anything less that 4 inches of oc703 or 4 lb or greater rockwool.

am i reading this right?

Don't listen to me, I'm a newbie, but I believe you are reading it right. That's why I'm using 4 inch 4pcf rockwool for the screen panels I will be building.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe at the same density and depth, rockwool and rigid fiberglass will be in the same ballpark of absorbtion performance.

If you know what 1/3-octave bands are and you know how to apply A-weighting, then you could just look at the paper here:

21 speech levels - Olsen.pdf

For a Male Voice with Raised vocal effort, the most impt freq's are 400-1600Hz, in 1/3-octave freq bands. The SPL at 125Hz is 22dB down compared to the peak frequency (500Hz), in A-weighted terms. 200Hz is 17dB down and 250Hz is 10dB down.

So, probably take from 250Hz 1/3-octave band and up to 3150Hz band.
