Fabric in the UK?

I was wondering if someone would be able to give me an idea of what/where to get fabric for our new traps. I went round my local fabric stores but nobody had burlap and their hessian seemed very heavy and was all in weird colours. GIK's Guilford of Maine is too expensive for us unfortunately but something similar would obviously be ideal.

I'd need a lot, at least enough to cover front, sides and a little of the back (for stapling) of 6x 1200mm x 600mm and 1x 1000mm x 600mm traps. Having surplus isn't a bad thing though, I'll probably be making more when I have some money for wood and stuffing materials

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance guys!

Yes shipping GOM to Europe is VERY expensive, but we can get you the Camira fabric for a pretty reasonable price. If you would like email me through my company website and I can get Christina to work up some numbers for you.

You can get the Camira Cara fabric from Making Waves for £7 a meter, which isn't bad going (though I haven't yet pulled the trigger on some myself). Though it might be just the one colour (can anyone confirm?).

Glad to say Glenn has beaten them on price at £6.75 a meter plus shipping and handling (which isn't bank breaking). I'm really tight for funds right now so just working some stuff out. I guess I'd rather pay for some expensive fabric (compared to totally different kinds) than have a crapy product

Glad to see we could come in at a good price for you. We will be putting this up on the UK website site very soon. thumbsup

So much time, so little time to get it done.

Ah, great! Always nice to have more options. Is it just the five colours you offer, Glen? Or would or be able to order other colours too?

I went to a fabric store earlier with a huge "50p a meter" sign outside, they had about 5 fabrics at 50p and nobody with a hint of sense would buy them. The rest were about £8

I think we are going to offer the full line. Not sure on all the pricing of them, but will keep you posted.

I need some too. I have four 7' x 2' panels, which need covering. So 3' wide and 8' high pieces would be great, that's what i've been using.

For all my other panels i've used Wickes 'stair case dust sheets' which are exactly the right width etc, but it gets pricey (£20 per panel front and back... although that doesn't seem that expensive compared to the prices above), but they aren't THAT good - if you pull the fabric too tight, it changes colour and goes all funny looking (see pics). Plus you have to use 2 layers because it's quite thin stuff that looks a bit pants if you just use one layer..

I had to cover it AGAIN on top with some Ikea fabric (you can see me about to re-wrap it in one of the pictures) but despite looking even in colour, it doesn't quite look as cool as the Wickes stuff did (despite the weird strip effect). So i'm looking for something that's even but also looks nice, like the stuff below.

Edit: sometimes this fabric had the problem, sometimes it didn't... so i assume it's cheap stuff that isn't consistent. It's meant to cover stairwells while you paint or sand, so that's why

If you're on a budget get to your local homebase type place and look for gardening fabric. It's a few quid for a roll 5m long by 3m wide with all sorts of different sizes. Normally just in black but looks great and does the job.

Beatsmith; £20 a panel seems steep! Although your panels look quite big. Glenn provides 1.5m wide lengths of fabric in meters. I have 7 panels to build right away and might have more in the future. All mine are 1.2m by 0.6m so I only need 1m of fabric per trap, I'm covering the backs with coffee sacks. That works out at £10 per panel with shipping and everything on top.
You might want to look into it in future, yours do look pretty cool though

Might have a look at garden fabric, thanks Chris.

It is not on the website as of yet. For now, if you don't mind, just send me a email through my website and I will have Christina work up pricing for you.

Save creating another new thread.

I'm looking for some cheap fabric in the UK, finding it hard to find stuff that's suitable for panels.

I've contacted about 4 different websites listing fabric but they quote me over £200 for around 500cm length.

I just went to a local fabric shop for dressmakers and knitting supplies, got some stuff that you can breathe through and looks great and it didn't cost much (8 or 10 panels worth for £20).

New studio is getting red suede

Looks like I'll have to go into the city and try find some local fabric store as you did, seems only way to get it cheap!

Thanks.
