Thread Starter | Futon sofa bed against back wall?
Hi, I have a room that without the bay window is about 12' x 13', but with the bay window is 15' 6" x 13'. I intend to face the bay window and treat the back wall (behind my listening position) with broadband absorption (as well as other treatment throughout the room). Thing is, I have this small futon sofa bed (metal chassis with thick fabric covering) which HAS to be in my mix room (under penalty of death). Ignoring other treatment for the time being, I was thinking I have a few options with regards to where to place the sofa and what direct affects it will have on other treatment options: 1) Sofa away from wall slightly, 4' away from listening position with a 4" bass trap straddling the floor to wall corner. This way I get an extra bass trap in there along with the wall to ceiling trap and the 4" or 6" broadband absorbers on the back wall. 2) Sofa up against wall, about 5' 6" to 6' away from listening position. It's further away, but I lose out on an extra 10' bass trap along the floor to wall corner. How badly will the sofa effect my monitoring environment? I've been reading up on here and apparently it could cause problems. Tell me it ain't so |

Go with option 1. It is always better to treat more of the corner area.

Thanks for the input, Glenn. I'm glad you said that as I really want to get as much bass trapping in there as humanely possible. I have another question, if you don't mind ) and... a waist-height shelving unit housing my turntables and CDJs. This unit is against one of the side walls. Should I get rid of it (and lose the DJ equipment) in order to maintain symmetry in the room? I have no qualms with removing it if it adversely affects my room.
