Question Have a look at this room.

Hi, I'm running some KRK VXT6s now and, they're pretty big for this small, untreated room.

My Room - old layout and furniture, just look at the room shape and dimensions.
New (future) layout - the desk is a bit deeper than that, so the monitors/listener equilateral triangle will exist.

VXT6 Mini-review- At first they sounded veiled, vocals were distant and bass flabby with distorted highs. After even a few hours of play they're SQ improved tenfold, with powerful lows and are incredibly detailed, despite the room. /mini-review

I've got some worries about the sound isolation and the only offending wall is the the wall with the door on it, I can listen at low-moderate levels without bothering anyone but some songs just need to be cranked, and the majority of the sound blasts right through that door and the wall, can't hear much coming out the ceiling or anywhere else, so that's 5 less walls to sound proof.

I'm also looking into some treatment to tame that bass, so it seems DIY bass traps are in order too. I'm looking to spend maybe £100-200 on this wall to improve the situation, surely it's possible.

I've been looking at those limp mass sheets for sound proofing, If anyone can vouch for they're effectiveness, then They'd be great. Low profile would be useful, and it has to not stop the door from opening.

Summary:
  1. Need to reduce the sound coming out through the door and the other half of that wall.
  2. Need to tame the bass.
Thanks, this forum has been great so far for worries and woes.

Hi!

Improving sound isolation through the wall/door might be tricky. The only thing I can think of is putting in a new decent door and frame which has a great seal around it. 100-200 quid on ebay might do it. failing that, maybe save the money and take the people out for a drink every time you know you have really annoyed them!

Bass traps... ebay again. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to rockwool that people have left over and second hand treatment!

Good luck!

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe leave the isolation for now, and ill get some bass traps made, maybe they would help keep bass from floating out the room too?

The parents aren't too bothered about my music anyway, as long as it isn't too trancey or repetitive.

So yeah, desk to design and make, and some bass traps and maybe a new door.

Surely a door could be DIYed too?
Hinges are about £10, seen wind stopper things go for about £5.
Just need to know the right materials for the door, the door is quite thick, just it's made out of low density fibreboard or something.

Anyway, if anyone has any other thoughts, they'd be greatly appreciated

If like most interior doors, it's a hollow core, just replacing it with a solid core door will help considerably. It's not going to stop all of it but it will help.

Another thing would be to pull back a bit so you're not effectively corner loading your speakers. The side benefit of that is that you can then also treat those corners.

maybe you could reduce the amount of sound leaking out by making airtight seals around the door - the sticky foam stuff or whatever..
