Thread Starter | bass trap width question
First off, I did a search and I couldn't find the answer to my specific question. I have a small room...its my control room/mixing/master room blah blah. You get the idea. I'm looking in to making some bass traps from ATS Acoustics. I was going to go with the 4 inch thick 703 stuff. I understand that it is 2ft x 4ft ...however..the control room is my bedroom. I sleep in there and having 2ft wide bass traps in the corners of my room will be too much of a challenge. I was thinking of slicing them in half to give me a 1ft x 4 ft bass trap. A 1ft wide bass trap should fit just fine in to the corners of my little room. However, what is the downside? They will absorb less bass because they aren't 2 ft? I can order 2 boxes of the 4 inch 703...thats 6 total...then slicing each one will give me a total of 12 to work with. 12... 1ft x 4ft bass traps. I'm also on a budget (aren't we all?) and if I have 12 to work with I can spread them out much better through out my room. thoughts? |

Bass traps are all about surface coverage. If you slice them in half they'll work only half as well and won't go as low in frequency. --Ethan ________________ The Acoustic Treatment Experts |

Arr, I keep noticing people writing 'then' when it should be 'than'. Maybe its just American english? I noticed a guy in a different forum doing that for years, and its been bothering me but I haven't said anything until now..

Ok well then this brings up another question... Coverage vs. positioning. I slice those board in half at 1ft widths...Now I have 12 boards to work with rather than 6 - 2ft wide boards. I can spread those 12 boards around my room vs. only spreading 6 2ft board around. is that better? or is having 6 2ft boards placed in the right area going to equate to better performance? More coverage...or less coverage but with wider panels? what do you guys think or recommend? I seriously don't see how I'll be able to sick 2 ft wide boards anywhere in my room. Its tight. |
