Thread Starter | Studio Acoustics Help (pics)
hello. i recently had to move the control room in my home studio to the third floor. had to make room for baby. i have a live room in the basement, and run a snake all the way down. my old room was heavily treated with acoustic foam, and although it was 12x13x8, i had it sounding great. so now i'm starting to make choices on where to place acoustical treatments in my new room. it measures 21x11x7. i have already put some foam at the early reflection points, but not sure about how to work with the vaulted ceilings, and the corners around the chimney. it sticks out about 1.5 feet from the wall. see before and after pics. any input will be greatly appreciated. thanks! ![]() |

You'll want some broadband bass control over your head to address the lower ceiling height as well as some in the rear of the room to help tame cancellations and the fact that the width and length are very close to multiples of each other. With proper treatment and setup, there's no reason this room shouldn't sound better than the 12x13x8 room. Bryan

| I agree with Bryan, and this room has the potential to be much better than your previous smaller room. But you definitely need more and better bass traps. That alone will make a huge improvement. --Ethan ________________ The Acoustic Treatment Experts |

thanks! i do have bass traps in the corners in front... but i was mainly worried about the chimney. also, what do you suggest doing to the ceiling? it sounds good in the "sweet spot", but as soon as i stand up, the bass is out of control. |

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Seriously, if you have good bass response in the height dimension when seated, don't worry about what it sounds like when you stand up unless you're going to mix standing up. Bryan |

thanks for the responses. i moved the bass traps up, and this seemed to tighten up the low end. stoked!
