i might have a found a neoprene puck alternative? PLEASE LEMME KNOW???

im a painter and was painting a commercial facility and the carpet guys were laying this rubber composite type floor and i saw all the scraps they were gonna to throw away, and thought to myself i could use this! (im currently building a studio in my basement)

I cant afford a floating floors so i was just gonna lay 2x4 wood vertical on top of current floor to get some sorta air gap between floor and studio floors, then plywood, then pergo type floors on top of that.

After seeing these i think this could be a nice alternative to pucks and i so i grabbed all the scrap and took it home with me.

i dont know anything about this stuff, not even the name of it! but it looks like a nice alternative to a floatig floor neoprene puck!

my idea was to line it on the bottoms of the 2x4 to make it float the floor? i was gonna double it up because its only bout 3mm thick.

i took some pics of it, has anyone used it or seen it before?

im curious to see how well it would work and if it is even worth it?

do any of you slutz know? any info would be awesome, thanks!!!

Do I think it would work better than the neoprene pucks? Probably not.

Do I think it would be better than the wood right on the floor? Yes

If you are on a tight budget and this stuff is heavily available then i'd say go for it... from were I see it from, you don't have anything to loose.

I have no idea if this is it or not.... but i know a company called "Mondo Flooring" made/makes stuff like this.

Hope that helps!

Who knows. Without deflection test data, it is impossible to say.

i would assume any type of isolation would be better than nothing? or atleast better than just laying a hardwood floor on top of 2x4 for minimal isolation from the basement floor, right?...and yes i am on a tight budget

An ill planned floating floor will be WORSE than without. Small gap creates high MAM frequency where isolation is reduced. Uncompressed due to too low a loading or bottotmed out due to excesive loading of the spring material WILL DO NOTHING for isolation.

...so are you saying that i should forget about the 2x4 isolation and maybe line my floor with the rubber alternative? or if the rubber gets smashed due to weight of the floor on top of it, it will do nothing for isolation?...wot are my options just for a studio floor?

Read my first post in thread. With out deflection data it is impossible to say.
