Basics

Hi, I have a very small room and I recently noticed that whichever speaker is in the corner, the bass sounds loudest in that one. So I am guessing that I need a bass trap. I want to get a more accurate picture of how much bass I am putting in to my tunes.

I dont really wanna mess around with fibre glass, I hate the stuff. Could I get a cheap foam thing for £30 and stick it in that corner and get away with it?

The room is about 10 ft x 7 ft, and my desk is on the long wall, in the corner, with a window on the right and the corner on the left. It has a laminate wood floor which is quite springy.

Not if you want it to accomplish anything... I think you need to do some basic research - tons of info out there on how to do all this with either commercial products or DIY, or a combo. You shouldn't expect someone to walk you through the details starting at zero unless you're prepared to pay them.

Search on "SBIR" - Speaker Boundary Interference Response.

I believe the Realtraps website has a good article on it.

The easiest and best treatment is not to put one speaker into a corner, as symmetry is important. Its much easier and much more effective to avoid creating the problem than to try to remediate it.

And I am sorry you have emotional issues with Fiberglas. But you will find most of us have more significant issues with recommending foam! Do a few searches on Corner Bass Traps (you may find 1 or 2 hits if lucky) and Panel Absorbers (maybe 2 or 3 hits on that as well).

And if that fails, try reading the threads in this portion.
If my memory has not totally failed me, I seem to recall one or two posts addressing topics such as SBIR and the use of absorption, as well as various types of absorption - be it semi-rigid or loose fill Fiberglass, Rockwool, Cotton batting, and any number of other materials - and even the plans for making panels or corner traps.

Dare we ask: Have you read anything in this section of the forum?

Cheers for that. Will have a read. Managed to move my desk 90 degrees, and away from the wall a bit. Also noticed that the bass sounds louder if I move my chair back a bit.

oh, the links are down
