Thread Starter | What should I do in these corners?
Hey folks. So, I was cutting triangles out of AFB for superchunks, tonight, and I had to stop because I ran into a mental road block. The front wall of my control room is covered with 1' (one foot) of R38 with Kraft Paper. I am/was about to do superchunks in the two front vertical corners. It occurred to me that the superchunks would not, in fact, be against the front wall because of the R38. Now, I could just put the sc up in front of the R38 (Option A) or I could replace the R38 with more AFB just behind the sc (Option B). The only reason I am hesitant to just put the sc in front of the R38 is the whole multiple-impedance-causing-reflection issue. By the way, I am doing this to help tame ringing in the 100Hz and below region. What do you reckon I should do? Thanks, Seamus

| Is the R38 fluffy pink doing much? The more fiberglass you have in the 3-5 PCF range the better. So, use more super chunk.... -tINY |

You know, Tiny, I couldn't tell you what the R38 is doing. I couldn't do any before and after measurements, at the time. I installed the R38 based purely on theory. Taken from www.bobgolds.com PRODUCT THICKNESS MOUNTING 125HZ 250HZ 500HZ 1000HZ 2000HZ 4000HZ Unfaced 12" on wall 1.14 1.09 1.09 0.99 1.00 1.21 So, I would like to think that it's doing a lot, but I don't know for sure. I am not sure you need anymore material in those corners. I think because the pink stuff extends into the corner, it is already behaving in a similar way as the superchunck trap would. Perhaps you should concentrate on other corners, (wall/ceiling, wall/floor, etc.)

Putting the chunk in front of the what you have is fine. |

I will be treating other corners. Putting the chunks in the front corners like this is just more material, is all. Leaving these corners as is would be less material than a superchunk, and wouldn't even be equivalent to a panel straddling the corner, I think. | |
