Small room, tons of traps!

Thought I'd share my small 11'6 x 11'8 x8 mixing (and tracking for some things) room. I'm very pleased with how it sounds, and thanks to y'all on this forum!

All of the wall corners are 6" 705 with frk. Other corners are 6" rock wool and the ceiling is 4" 705. Back wall is 6" and needs a couple more 6" which will be done soon. The first reflections on the sides are 4" rock wool.

This is a dry room for sure but it's unavoidable in such a cube. I have got some great drums out of here believe it or not, and my mixes transfer very well!

Also included is a pic of a makeshift ceiling cloud stand I built. I currently rent at a friends house so no drilling hole in the basement ceiling! Thought it might help some people in the same situation. Thanks again for all the info!

This has got to be the ugliest environment I've ever seen. More importantly, if it sounds good then you've accomplished a lot.

Ha! Agreed, I definitely wasn't going for aesthetics.

Old School

Well done. 'Dead' has become unpopular of late. This despite the fact that it is pretty much the only option for a successful small mix room.
Many don't go all the way because of this dislike of an unnatural acoustic.
This is a pity IMHO, such rooms deliver mixes that translate.

your cloud hammock is precarious . I would re-orientate the horizontal members that are attached to the legs. Mounted lower and on end, you wouldn't loose any headroom.

Thanks DanDan, I was astonished at the clarity and how well my mixes translated after.

Dykstraster, great idea. I"m not much of a handyman. This will be an easy fix and more stable. Appreciate it!

I'd recognize those diffusers anywhere!

pic number 7 really shows the covering on the front of that bass trap isn't much good. Loose fibers above your head is not a good thing. I commend you on the time and effort you must have gone though but safety first.

Have you recorded acoustic guitar in that room? If so how did it turn out and what kind of mic placement did you use and where did you sit in the room to record?

So you used the foil facing on the bass traps?

Yes I have recorded acoustic. I bring in a sheet of plywood to put underneath me as it is carpet. The result was pleasing and detailed. I prefer the big tracking room I have downstairs though. I've used lots of mic placements and they all sound different, but good.

I lost some of the highs so I used frk to face the wall corners and it worked brilliantly.
