Thread Starter | Panel question.
Would it be ok to put some auralex foam. The wedge type (2\") on top of some frk type insulation? I already have the foam. I want to make some frames with the foam as the front.

Sure you can do that but don't use FRK on the fronts.

Thread Starter | Well I have tried it with rockwool. But the foam comes off after a while as the rockwool dosn\'t have a firm enough finish. The idea was that the foil type layer would be a good surface to stick the foam to so it will actually stay. The Auralex stuff works well down to 500Hz. I was thinking that below that would pass through the FRK. Well I was hoping.

What frequency cut off does the FRK facing reflect?

I am not sure of the frequency that it would totally pass through at but I guess you would be ok. Really the only way to find out is to try it and see.

I guess you don\'t use the FRK stuff in your products then. I think Ethan does. Maybe he has tested it.

| Lives for gear | Complex
Hi Ronnie. FRK will reflect higher frequencies. It is a sliding scale, no clear turning point. Also it will resonate a little around 250, probably useful. Overall a complex behaviour, but hey RealTraps work real well. Under the foam like that, FRK may work as a sort of damped membrane. Untested, but if I had to guess, I would say your design is good. Thanks DanDan. I guess I could drill some holes in the FRK face to let some more high in. But still leave enough surface to stick the foam on securely.

You could. Since you are using frames you could put a mesh front on them and glue your foam to that. Use a web glue though, one that sprays out like a spiders web. Otherwise you will have a layer of impenetrable glue in there. DD |
