What type of mic to measure impulse response

Right now, I'm using a radio shake SPL meter with a correction file that is only accurate between 20hz and MAYBE 3000hz (some would say no higher than 1000hz). Combined with REW, this is sufficient to deal with my room's modal issues and has helped me work wonders with bass traps.

Now I want to start measuring ETC. Does it do any good at all to do an ETC with this mic, or should I invest in something that is accurate to 20kHz?

And if the latter, what is recommended in the "affordable" range?

Likely mic inside that instrument is low cost omni, but NOT higher frequency capable 'back-electret' capsule with frequency ability to over 40,000 like Panasonic WM-61 type available from Digi-Key.

Impulse response needs meter to be set in "C" to grab peaks, and not the average settings having impluses becoming invisible.

I have lapel mics made with highly modified Panasonic capsules giving perfect flat response from 5 cycles out to ~25,000 Hz if interested in using one of these to make DIY SPL measuring instruments.

And if you are interested in additional models such as the Earthworks M30/BX, TEF04, TEF05, SoundFirst SF101, DPA4090, DPA 4007, Audio Toolbox, etc., PM me.
