Thread Starter | sides of corner traps not touching walls?
I just finished building (as per the Ready Acoustics tutorial) and installing my corner bass traps and noticed that once I stack 2 of them to reach the ceiling, the sides of both traps aren't touching the side walls. It looks as though there is a slight lean forward on each trap, due to not having a frame on all sides of the trap(just the one on back that the fabric is stapled to), and also because the corners on ALL of the 703 was no longer "rigid" due to shipping. This causes the front of the trap corners to collapse a bit when the fabric was pulled tight, and subsequently not "sharp" like the back corners, which are supported by the backer frame. I searched on here but could only find one other thread that referenced a trap not touching ONE of the walls. What about in my case, where, for the most part, the sides of the traps aren't coming in contact with the walls at all. Will this reduce their effectiveness? Marc |

It's not necessary for the traps to touch the wall. You're dealing with porous absorption here, which works best when the sound wave is at high velocity. This occurs away from boundaries, not near them.
