light and cheap acoustic panels

I wonder if this idea works for acoustic absorbtion panels.

The main idea is to glue a styrofoam frame ((maybe 2"" thick) on a cardbox, fit the rockwool and of course cover it with fabric. If its not rigid enough an additional bar can be glued accross the middle.

Additional styrofoam bars could be added on the back to make it stand away from the wall a bit.

I think this is very light and easy to install. I know it does not go down to very low frequencies so I would make thicker dedicated bass traps for that purpose.

What do you think. Sorry for the artistic drawing.

For panels for early reflection points (What Are Early Reflection Points. SPOTLIGHT:Bob Ebeling - Revolution Studio) or general decay it could work, but for bass traps (like straddling the corner) it will not. If you use 703 with wood frames it really is not going to be all that heavy and mounting with general picture hooks works well. See the following LAME video I did on hanging with wood frames.

The lightest you can make are going to use steel corner extrusions (like drywall corner beads) and rivets. I think 1/4" poplar is a lot easier to deal with and almost as light.

And it doesn't crack if someone bumps into it....
