Curved Diffuser Idea - AFV

As I was watching some AFV, (America's funniest home videos for those not in the know) I noted the backdrop of the set had walls of what looked like layers of waves that (I think) would be killer diffusers. Ignore Tom Bergeron in the pic.

Do you think these would work well? How would one go about building something like this? Any ideas?

Kind of like:
PaperForms Acoustic Weave (12 Tile Pack) - Wallpaper - MIO

Only bigger and more substantial.

Basically a pattern of polycylindrical diffusors.

I'm pretty sure the pros will say a QRD is superior. That's what they always say.

Thats on the right track - I wonder if you could get some sort of wide straping or flashing to do it larger. Seems like if you could find something already curved or easily bent it would be pretty effective and inexpensive.

isn't it funny when you start paying attention to room acoustics, how everything looks like it will sound good? I drove past a house with a terra-cota tile roof the other day...

1/8" ply is surprisingly bendable.

I built some polys for my live room, nothing like the coverage Tom has, but there's defineatly an improvement over flat walls, and not just in the high frequencies and flutter echo. I ran a before and after test recording of a drum machine in attempt to hear the difference, and was disappointed in the results. On the recording, there's a mild taming of the top end, a bit smoother. What couldn't be translated to the test is the difference in consistancy from place to place in the room. Much more pleasing, and easy to find room mic locations.

The one recommendation I typically hear in regards to poly diffusors, is to not space them closely together.
