Thread Starter | Treatment Help!
Hey guys, so i'm finally starting on treating my studio space. ive had my studio down in my basement for about 5 years now but im starting to get more serious with it so i figured its about time to start treating it well, yea i no i did it backwards lol. heres the layout, the rooms about 17 by 14. Its mostly used as a control room, but i do track vocals in a small iso room i built. I started the treatment process but i need some more help. When ever i listen to my mixes in the car or on another set of speakers theres always a lot more bass in the mix then what i hear through my monitors. So heres the question. What can i do for that??? Im using maudio bx8s and KRK 5's for my near fields. heres a crappy drawing of my layout. I can provide some actual pics if u need em |

| Gear Head | Hi
as I can see in your draw, or either u start thinking of your room as a ENTIRE room, even if it means that the drum set wont have any place to go, and keep just the iso booth for the vocals...setting up your speakers like this...it doesnt matter what **** your gonna do...will always be terrible.

I think what he is trying to say, is that your recording station is in an ill conceived location. Ideally, you should center yourself on the wall furthest from the stairs... so your speakers are firing down the longest dimension of the space. The rule of thumb is that your head is at roughly 38% of the rooms length, approximitly 6.5' in your case. Centering the rig in the middle of the room will make sure your stereo image translates well Firing the rig down the longest dimension of the room will help to ease the effect the room has on your bass response. Sitting at 38% of the length will put you in a relatively "flat" area in terms of peaks and nulls caused by the room's dimension. Moving the speakers around (closer/further from front wall, higher and lower, wider and narrower) will all effect how the speakers are reacting with the boundaries around them, creating peaks and nulls at different frequencies. You can use this reaction to counter balance the room's response at your seated location... this is a lengthy and tedious process. Cover any/all corners you can with thick fiber bass traps use a mirror on the side walls and ceiling. sit at the mix position and have a friend move the mirror around. any where you can see either speaker in the mirror, is a direct reflection point. you'll want to treat these with absorption. this should make things much better
