Panels to stop flutter problems.

I need to hang something on my parallel walls as my (live) room is quite echoey (even though I dont have many parallel walls) If I make some fabric covered absorbers to hang, do they only need to be basic, 2" thick with no airgap etc to serve a purpose such as this?, not as dense as a 'bass trap'.

I hear that I could instead hang up diffusers to stop the flutter but which is best? given that Im about to stuff the corners and hang a heavy curtain in the room.

Is there a ratio for dampening material v's reflective surface in a room, that I could use as a basic guide? for example 70:30 etc??

Sorry for those who keep reading what is really the same question in a different post by me.. but I think I am still unclear on what to do, and therefore keep feeling the need to re phrase myself. I can post a drawing of the room but I have done so in previous threads and feel like Im becoming annoying

Heavy drapes should deal with flutter echo alright if they have some pleating.

You could use a bowed piece of 1/8 plywood if you don't want to deaden the room further...

As tiny pointed out you can use heavy curtains to stop flutter, but I would be a bit careful as it can only dampen the high end and leave mids and low end swimming in the room. For most smaller rooms it is always best to use a mim of 2" of rigid fiberglass or mineral wool to control flutter. You could use the bent wood also as that would be a poly.

Plywood sheets or similar can be angled 15' or so to stop the flutter without killing the room. That, polys, pyramids etc gives spatial diffusion only. The math based diffusers (QRD, PRD etc) also provide temporal (time) dispersion which aids in creating a richer denser room sound. If you can afford it..

Which Question

Haynes. There are articles on acoustics, room set up and treatment at GIK RealTraps, studiotips.com etc. etc. All the basics are carefully written there.
With respect, why not just get on with it. Practical matters will help your decisions, e.g. diffusion is expensive!
If you have read those articles, you will be quite clear on the sure things. Corner Traps, Cloud, RFZ.

If you really want us to confirm the obvious regarding your particular room, lets give it one last shot. We need the details.
Post your photos, sketch.
Dimensions? What are the surfaces made of (concrete, sheetrock, wood etc.)?
What is the purpose of your room. Mixing, Recording, both?

Cheers, Ive been getting on with refurbishing the space until now. In recent weeks Ive read alot and asked alot of questions while I've been painting etc but I am finally ready for this phase and I started making the floor to ceiling corner traps today. I am still undecided on how to approach it after that though.. sure does echo in there.

Room is for band rehearsal mainly but its also for recording in. It is carpet on a concrete slab with drywall walls and ceiling. Here are some (not great) pics and a link to a sketch I posted earlier when I was in my soundproofing stage. The heavy pleated velvet curtain will run the length of the wall with the large window, and perhaps I'll hang one at the other window also.
