USA to UK translation requested.

Spent today reading some awesome DIY bass trap threads.

Searched high and low for a material here in the UK that is similar to OC 703. Found Rockwool RW3 to fit the bill nicely.

Now Im struggling to find out what we call FRK? Can anyone help me out here? It took hours to get to the bottom of OC = RW3.

If the UK has nothing similar to FRK is there anything else to allow bass in but not highs and mids as much? Don't want a dead room.

I´m not familiar with products in the UK but...

FRK is the facing/coating you can find on wool slabs, often as an option. There are many different kinds: paper, alu-foil, plastic, bitumen... You can however, DIY it. Apply kraft paper or similar on the face of the wool using glue.

I guess the open sides, if you have any, don´t need facing other than the fabric. So just do the side facing the room.

Thanks for trying to help. Im still not sure what im looking for though.

Its hard to order when I haven't got a clue what I want. Sales staff look at me like im stupid in hardware shops.

Wont anything more universal do, like plastic?

Yo! Check this out. If You haven´t already.

http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm

It has some Rockwool in there as well. Though it does not seem to have been tested with any facings. There are other brands as well, You know.

What is the problem then? You don´t know where to get kraftpaper? Or don´t know where to put it and where not? And yes, some people use thin plastic as "FRK".

P.S. The sales staff typically don´t know about this stuff so it´s their shortcoming not Yours.

Hi mate.

Rockwool is sorted. THe problem is I want bass traps as opposed broadband absorbers.

Because most music forums are American they natural recommend products readily available in the US.

Took me ages to find a suitable substitute for 703. I mean Rockwool yeah but there are a trillion different types. Got that sorted but here I go again with FRK.

It isnt listed anywhere in the UK. Of course if Americans have a use for this you can bet someone over here is making it probs with a different name.

I have a friend coming over this wednesday to build the traps with me. I ideally need the materials by then.

Only thing im missing is a material that will repel highs and mids so I dont end up with a dead room. It doesn't have to be FRK. Anything will do. Any suggestions appreciated.

OK. So in addition to the materials I mentioned, there is the fabric You can play with. Thicker and harder will reflect more highs. Denim might work? I ended up with Ikea´s Minna.
Or You could cover part of the face with strips of wood to reflect highs and mids. Or use perforated metal sheets on the panels.

And if Your problems are on narrow frequency bands, Helmholz- or tube- or other tuned absorbers could help. Right tool for the right job.

Cheers.

Hi, no not the fabric for finishing them. A fabric that will let bass through but keep his and mids out. How about plastic sheeting. How thick?
