Thread Starter | Roxul Rockboard and Potato Bugs?
I was testing out different possible senarios in my room with the traps uncovered (no fabric). I noticed a couple dead potato bugs but thought nothing of it since I was moving things around like crazy and hadn't really done a good vaccum in a long time. However just today I was working on a panel outside and a live potato bug creeped out the side of the panel and scared the crap outta me. Just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem, should I be concerened or do you think he just got in there since the panel had been outside for a couple days, uncovered? |

Exactly what problem? Being afraid of potato bugs? ![]() Roxul is basalt (rock) based and provides no organic support for anything other than perhaps a rock eating critter (how scary they are I don't know, as I have never seen one - sorry, just having a bit of fun!) I suspect that your problem is strictly a limited one based upon some proximal issue, not a fundamental issue with Roxul or Fiberglas. I suspect that your suspicion of them simply finding a convenient place to hide, or sleep, or party - as I really can't speak for the bugs - is correct. But if anyone should hear of a rock or silicon eating critter being identified, please let us know. |

As far as I know, they are harmless, but I just dont want insect problems because of insulation I added.

Wow, who knew? Maybe you could put one of your boards under some sort of clear cover so nothing can get in, and then see if anything comes crawling OUT. If you've got critters burrowing in your panels, who knows how they got there or why they are there, but I would not want that stuff stuck to my walls. |

Actually, you may be able to take lemons and make lemonade! While harmless, potato bugs are voracious garden pests. Perhaps there is a secondary market for selling Roxul panels at home & garden centers as potato bug 'traps' to help protect gardens from the bugs (and unwanted reflections!) |

SAC's first post is what I needed to hear lol. I searched the panel high and low and even picked areas apart and found nothing, so I am sure it was just a couple the got in to "party". Plus my panels are fully incapsulated so nothing can get in or out, unless they can fit through the fabric weave!!
