Thread Starter | plz educate me on "amplitude reflexion grating"
Hi, in Recording Studio Design by Phillip Newell, 2nd edition p.112, he mentions "amplitude reflexion grating". I am very interested to know the details of how it works and the math behind it. What caught my attention was the phrase "they take up little depth, and the depth does not limit their low frequency performance." I'd like to know how to calculate the effected frequencies for a given "optimum relative positioning of absorbent materials". I understand how it's done with QRD, but how does it all play out with "A.R.G."?

You might want to start by investigating the RPG BAD panels RPG Diffusor Systems as well as the D'Antonio & Cox Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers text and papers such as: Two Dimensional Binary Amplitude Diffusers by Angus, James A. S. and D'Antonio, Peter AES Convention:107 (September 1999) Paper Number:5061 |

SAC, THANKYOU! That is exactly the kind of straightforward answer that will actually help me learn on my own. Thankyou for not making me play 20 questions. When people give advice the way you did, it actually guides the reader in a quick way to find the answer without wasting a lot of time, while still avoiding "spoon feeding". I get so tired of the "I don't know what you're talking about" game when I post a question. A lot of knowledgable people give empty, vague replies when they know exactly what you're looking for, and say they do it to lead you to find the answer for yourself. I am HAAAPPPPPPYYYYYY! to find the answers myself, and posting a question here is part of my search! If the advisor doesn't want to outright tell me the answer, atleast tell me where I can FIND the answer! YOU, on the other hand, have given me something I can truly work with. Now I have guidance without spoonfeeding and without wasting my time. Thank you So......... I actually did look at the RPG BAD Arc after I started this thread. I see the relevance, but I haven't found anything yet explaining the technical side of the design, how to tune them to cover a specific frequency range. I haven't read the papers you mentioned, so I expect I'll find something there. BTW, where do I find those? (Google searching as we speak) Do I have to be a member of AES to read them? Is the D'Antonio & Cox one a book or is it in the AES library? I never have understood where to find "papers" when they have been suggested for reading. I really appreciate your help! Nathan Webb |
