Thread Starter | Found some random material for Bass Traps
I was at my brothers house and seen a truckload of material just collecting dust in the corner. They are Owen Cornings r-13 and Cocoon r-19 r-20 r-30. According to http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm the Owens Cornings has damn good acoustic properties but i cant find anything on the Cocoon r-19 r-20 r-30, which there is more of. There is enough of the Cocoon to cover a room! Another thing. The OC r-13 doesnt have a rigid backing. Has anybody used this kind(comes in a roll) for bass trapping? Need some insight. (Edit) Found out the Cocoon is blower insulation??

R-13, 19, 20 and 30 is just regular "pink fluffy" insulation. Its about 1/4 of the density of what you typically would use for bass traps. If it's still in rolls, you can stack the rolls in the corners and that will work as trapping.

Thread Starter | yes pink fluff
According to the chart 2.5" OC R-8 hanging 16" from the wall absorbs 0.59% of 125hz and 0.84% of 250hz. Would it be accurate, if doubled over, the same R8 at 5" thickness would absorb 1.18% of 125hz and 1.64% of 250hz if hung 16" from the wall??? If so i may need to find a way to compensate for the lack of rigid backing.

Weasel9992 after searching through google i found out the correct term was "Cellulose"..guess thats why nobody knew what the hell i was talkin about. I have Cellulose and a roll of Pink Fluffy. I have two questions. 1.Can the Pink Fluffy be folded two or three times to simulate rigid fiberglass to be used as a bass trap? 2. If I can make a Frame that could be filled with Cellulose would it be effective as a bass trap? |

So it sounds like what your saying is if you compress it enough and hang it from the wall it will make a difference. That answers my first question. Thank you. On to the Cellulose. The blow insulation. YouTube - Installing Cellulose Insulation I seen a thread on here with someone making a Super Chunk trap...and put chicken wire on the back for more stability. I was thinking of enclosing the cellulose in a frame with chicken wire or some other mesh-like grill. Would this be effective? |
