| Lives for gear | ok, 70hz = roughly a 16ft waveform, and its destroying my room!
i have a 70hz build up in a corner. i of course have my own ideas, but i feel like im in need of "of the top of your head" solutions. absorption, diffusion, both? would a 6 pack of 703 solve the issue? thanks

Diffusion is certainly not what you want. Absorption all the way. A 6 pack of 703 is certainly a move in the right direction, but until you have it installed it will be tough to tell how much it will do. Typically it takes a good amount of mass and surface area coverage to deal with the low end, so don't be surprised if the 2 or 3 traps you can make out of six pieces is just a start.

with dimensions we can at least figure out what axis is most likely to cause such a mode, and treat the right corners. If it's a height mode, wall corners won't do as much as ceiling/wall corners.

The simple answer is YES 4", 6" or fill the corner with rigid fiberglass or mineral wool, floor to ceiling will go a long way to solving a problem.

thanks. looks like ill give it a try. the increase of 70hz is probably 5 or so Db. it sounds great actually, but its got to go. so the room will even out. |

At least 6" of rockwool/fiberglass or superchunks in the corners will take care of the decay below 80 hz (IME). But peaks or nulls in this frequencie may have other culprits (like untreated ceiling , rear wall...) For all these places, I´d go for with no less than 6" plus 2" or 4" air gap - the thicker the better) Ciro |

I might also recommend a cheap/effective answer - a stack of fiberglass rolls. You can put a curtain in front of them or cover them up with fabric/frame. I just had a significant improvement with this stuff at very low frequencies. ![]() I don't know the dimensions of your room but the rear wall/ceiling corner was a killer for me. Here's the before and after graph, check out what this stuff did to the severe 70Hz null I had: (green is before traps) |
