plastic wrap over rockwool

Hello, i'm considering to cover rockwool traps with plastic wrap.

Will i compromise it's effect?

Honestly i'm very tired of rockwool edges.. they pass through everything, i often move some of these traps..

I already have two or three layers of fabric and they still pass..

I'm considering to put plastic wrap around the one which are not in early reflections points.. but i'm even considering to put plastic wrap even in the ones at early reflection point.. will this compromise the mids/highs absorption?

I i make a measurement with and without plastic wrap and are identical.. could i assume plastic wrap doesn't do anything to the sound?

thanks

Foam backed Cara fabric

Your best bet is to use this stuff, its got a thin layer of foam stuck to the back of the cara fabric (burlap in america), ive recently used it on my ceiling cloud and have had no problems with it ripping or with its ability in keeping fibre locked away.

Cara Acoustic Fabric (Foam Backed) - 40 Colours on eBay (end time 26-Apr-10 13:57:56 BST), try and find similar where you are.

Cara is GREAT stuff I highly recommend it. As far as plastic wrapping it should be fine for the bass traps.

but not for the ER points?

again, if i make a measurement and it's exactly the same with and without plastic wrap.. what means? :D

Thanks for the suggestion about Cara.

Plastic-wrapped high frequency panels would be too reflective in principal. By all means take some measurements though.

i have some 4" and 8" thick bass traps, they are not 2" (only for highs and mids) but some are in the reflection points and others not.

I think the one not in the ER points are ok plastic wrapped, for the ones in the ER points maybe still works, maybe not.. because, yes plastic is reflective, but it's a very thin layer.

I had comb filtering from the desk (in the highs and hi mid) i putted a 2" thick rockwool panel on the desk.. and the comb filtering was still there.. so that made me think probably high freq are not so easy to be absorbed.. i mean probably sometime you need thicker panels (btw i eliminated the desk and now i've no comb filtering :P)

i don't know i just think if the measurements are identical or not so worse, i could chose to plastic wrap them, because i really hate these edges and they come out everywhere.. if not, i'll consider this "Cara fabric" but isn't so cheap :P i mean i need a lot of it... and i don't know how much for shipping will be, but seems really good.

Honestly the only thing i trust to stop the edges is plastic.. something that doesn't make edges pass thru

I'm not convinced that wrapping in plastic will have little effect on low
frequency absorption. Isn't air supposed to move into and out of the
insulation for absorption to occur ? (I realize air won't go 'through' the
insulation but rather move slightly back and forth as the pressure changes
move through).

If insulation is wrapped the pressure will need to cause movement of the
plastic to cause movement of the air within. Can plastic move enough for
this to occur ? It seems to me that any plastic should be thin and loose
otherwise it will act like a panel in a panel absorber. I don't think leaving
insulation tightly packed in its packaging is a good idea.

High frequencies will certainly be affected by plastic wrapping.
