Roxul 8lb. How thick for base trap?

New to Gearslutz and spent a couple hours searching threads for an answer but wasn't able to find quite what I need to know.

I am in my first attempt to build bass traps for a small 4'x4'x7'6" vocal booth.

I purchased some 8 lb. Roxul mineral wool... the 2" thickness. I noticed in some threads advice related to using less material when it has higher density. Should I still double it to 4 inches for a bass trap... or can I go with 2 inches because of the higher 8 lb. density?

Many thanks for replies and advice

I'm not an expert, but I don't think you have to worry too much about real thick bass traps in a vocal booth. In a vocal booth that small, I would just do 2" panels, no matter what the density.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will set me straight!

Even in a booth I would make the traps as thick as possible and YES make them 4" if you can.

Thanks Bender and Glenn...

So Glenn even with the 8 lb it's best to go 4" right?

Also, in a booth that small it's near impossible to straddle corners with bass traps of any size... will they sill be effective if they're near corners... and would it do any good to built "mini" corner bass traps with a front surface area of say 10" by 24"??

Thanks

You can put them near the corner but also you can straddle upper corners long where the ceiling and wall meet. Kind of like this

One more Glenn... apologies for so many questions... it's the newbie thing!!

So if you had your choice between "flat on the ceiling of the booth" and "angling the trap" as you show in the picture you posted... which would you choose?

Many thanks again.

I would angle the corners if possible as that will pick up ALOT more low end and mids.

Glenn how low of a frequency does the average human voice go? Would you even suggest 6" corner traps in an average size room where only vocals are being recorded?

You could use 6" traps if they fit. See the following.
