New advice for a new setup..pleez

Okay, I am getting really restless and I feel like changing my setup. My reasons are:

1)I feel like I just have toooooo much shite in this room

2)I am considering trashing the LENRDS and getting some bass traps(I will still use some 2" foam for reflections).

My concerns are:

1) getting rid of a lot of the furnishings, thereby taking away some "natural diffusion"

2)doing a whole lotta moving shite around and having significantly small positive changes. Not to mention the money that will probably be spent on traps and a new work station desk.

I am attching an old picture from a very old post b/c it seems quicker than redrawing.

Okay some explanations: the bed and the dresser stay. there will be my desk and a book shelf, about 4' tall and 8" deep. The window in the diagram is 4'x4'. Also, not pictured is a closet door which should appear in the lowest left corner of the diagram and it is parallel to the dresser. Also absent is another closet with mirrored sliding doors and that is in the lower right hand corner of the diagram and it runs perpendicular to thedoor in the lowest right corner.

So, what I am wanting to know is, where would you put the mixing desk first and then worry about placing the furniture next? Also, I am open to any comments about my above mentioned concerns!

Whoo,that was long.

Thanks again,

foamboy

ps. oops, I forgot to mention, I am thinking of putting the mix spot where the dresser is in the diagram.

Okay. I am going to update this a bit. You may refer to my previous post or simply just answer this question. Based on the less cluttered diagram, what are the top 3 places you would put your mixing desk,in the order of preference please?

Items in the diagram:

1)4'x4' window

2) closet door

3)door to the living room(I usually leave this open and would prefer to continue to do so when mixing)

4)closet with sliding mirror doors

5) door to the bathroom.

Thanks again,

I am SOO un qualified to answer but just for fun to see if I've been listening to the experts.

1.First place the desk where your beds head is now so the monitors will fire down the LONG walls.
2.Then place it half way between the east-west walls.....e.g....so your east-west mix position should be in the middle of the room
3.Your north-south "mix" position should be aprox 38% (or where it sounds best ....give a few %)of the room from the FRONT wall.
4.Furniture like beds can be helpful and is better than sleeping on the floor. a lot of reflective surfaces like glass mirrors...not so good....
5.Foam is good for killing high frequency and creating a DEAD sound envoirment(and is a wonderfull fire excellerant!!)...not so good for balancing a rooms anomolies.
6.Shoot your room to check it's problems....The dimensions of your room will have a lot to do with the outcome....then as the gurus would say bass traps, bass traps, bass traps and more bass traps......(strap one on you pets in case they come in the room).Floor to cieling if possible placeds in the corners.minimuim 4"
7.Back wall BT at leat 4".... 6" even better.Front walls....(never quite got that)???

After the room is all guised up do yourself a favor if you haven't already.Aquire some quality monitors. The night and day hyperbole comparison is bandied about quite a bit here but good room treatment AND solid monitors should open up your ears to a whole new world.Best of luck

Hey Butch, Thanks for playing along! Well you certainly sound qualified or at least you have a learned on lot on these forums!!! Yes, I have discovered most of the things you have listed, however,we can't always get what we want. Oops, didn't mean to get quippy. What I mean is, what would your second and third choices be,because due to actual physical constraints of the dimensions of the furnishings, I may not be able to heed your advice. So,I am just trying to get as many educated suggestions as possible.

Once again, thanks for participating and hopefully this thread won't get relegated to the "who the hell cares" section!

THanks

I like the set up ButchP gave you, but you can put the mix where the dresser is also. The problem will be treating where that door is in that corner. Bass trapping in the front corners is important and you want symmetry with them. Meaning bass traps in both corners. I guess you can put them on stands?

Thanks for the reply Glenn. Unfortunately the suggestion that ButchP gave (although good) will not work because of a bed that HAS to be in the room. No matter how I try to jockey it around it just seems strange. As for the "stands" suggestion, I have been thinking long and hard about that very concept.

Okay,back to the drawing board.

Thanks again,
