Smile Last minute advice for my first DIY..!

hey guys,
i must say everyone doing a awesome job at this forum..thumbsup
I'm a DJ/Producer from India & my genre of music is electronic , dance.

ive been following and reading some threads which have inspired me to build my own traps.. since its insanely expensive to get ready made traps from GIK or Real traps to India.Bombay. But the positive side is we have loads of manpower here .. so ive hired some carpenters doing the job for me. . I plan to use this room for mainly for Mixing.

Room dimensions : Length = 12.25 ft (2feet is the wardrobe so i take this as 10.25 ft)
Width = 10.41 ft
Height = 9 ft

Here we go: i know i haven't posted any room pics. but reading enough from the forum i learnt a lot abt diffusors , absorbers etc..

so here's wat i have done: (hope ive got it right).

my bedroom consists of a wooden wardrobe & glass sliding window which seems to be a major problem.

So my side walls are left (wardrobe) & right (glass sliding window)

Window :
Ive got fibreglass from a local company ,since no OC 703 here.
so i plan to build an out n out flushed 3inch deep frame with fibreglass 4" which blocks the window completely. (just like ive seen so many ppl do the DIY bass trap on this forum)

Wardrobe :
ive got 4 doors on the wardrobe. Custom making the frame size and cutting the fibreglass according to the door size of the cupboard and plan to hook the frames on the wardrobe doors. i.e. 2" thickness

so now both my sidewalls 4inch & 2inch fibreglass.

and ofcourse i'm treating the front & back wall with 2 bass traps 4inch each. treating the corners with traps.

in all the no. of traps in the room are around 12 traps + auralex foam which i had bought in london before i started reading about traps on this forum. So i need to use it somewhere.. planning to make a could of the foam or else it will be used on my door.

I think ive made a mistake while cutting the thickness of 2 of the frames because i saw some video on youtube .. in that the guy build the frame and placed it on top of the OC. and then made it like a photo frame hanging scenario. But know i feel i like the framed look.

The question is can i stuff 4inch glasswool in 2inch deep frame? will it give the same effect orelese ill have to join 2 frames.

ive already started work and would love to post pics as soon as im done.

hope im on the right track. any suggestions , advice is my motive to post this.

cheers
b

BTW, your room is pretty much a cube around 10ft edge, so I assume you are having difficulties in getting a flat response there.

Regarding your question, no you can't fit 4" depth of fiberglass into a 2" frame. Not unless it's actually fluffy glass wool, that absorbs much less.

Your room needs lot's of treatment and heavy one. 2" panels won't do any real good and placing too many of those will just kill the mid/highs and do little for the bass.

One suggestion is to make 6" deep floor to ceiling traps for the 4 corners. Use a kind of semi-reflective thin facing (see FRK) for them. Then make another 4x 4" panels for first reflection points and see how things improve as you go.

Room with pics

thanks for the reply.

well i do understand the need of 6" floor to ceiling traps. But i have a few restrictions in terms of structure.

The window frame border allows only 3" on wood to placed there. So i can try to fit in the 4"inch fibreglass.

The wardrobe you can see in the pics only allows 2" thickness to be attached on the door since the door need to open n close easily.

on the back wall i can place 6" but thats where my bed is ; so i thought of making 2 4" which will also look nice. the front wall , right behind the monitors i will place the 4".

also on the top section above the wardrobe and ceiling im placing 4" & a 4" cloud over the sit position.

You can always straddle upper ceiling to wall corners or floor to wall corners.

you mean the top corners? yes im doing that by placing 2 6'x3' - 4" panels hooked on the walls in a horizontal frame type.

wondering if my window idea is alright.

4inch fibreglass , with 6mm plywood at the back.

any thoughts about my wardrobe?

appreciate it

How about removing the doors and mounting traps in their place? Do you need the closets functional?

I would be a little concerned with 4" deep absorption on one side and 2" deep on the other. In terms of left right symmetry you may get an inaccurate image. Can you split the difference and do 3" on both sides?

yea i thought of that. But since i was blocking a glass sliding window which permits only a 3" deep frame.. so i could squash 4" fibreglass in it.
and since my wardrobe opening door only permits 2 inches..

i get ur point on about imaging. how about both sides with 2" then??

or else i'll have to cut through the sheets of fibreglass all through to add 1 more inch to the wardrobe and window.
