material for bass traps

I have been putting of room treatment because of the costs of OC 703, I know some of you guy's have made great DIY treatment and I would like to do the same, I would just like to know if Home Depot or Lowe's sells anything I could use in place of 703 or rock wool (not available in my area), I know you can stack rolls of insulation in the corner but I really want something that looks halfway decent, so my question is...

What can I buy locally that will work like mineral wool or 703?

Thank you very much!!!

Seeing as you live in the US you can't be far from an insulation supplier. Look
one up in the phonebook for your area. Just say you're looking for the cheapest
equivalent to 703 or whatever you're looking for. I'm sure you'll be steered in
the right direction.

I have been thinking in terms of cost of material as well. Stone wool is cheaper than glasswool in general but again the prices I've seen originally were almost prohibitive. Something in the range of 10euro per 2x4 sheet at 2".

By postponing and looking around I found out an outlet that sold a pack of 8 such sheets for 19 euro. That was at a branch of Leroy Merlin, not a cheap store in most things but stone wool was at a great price.

Look around for Rockwool sheets. Prices might differ a lot between stores.

You are right, I'm sure I can find one close but I can not spend that much money for a few sheets of rigid fiberglass, I just though I had read about people going to home depot and using something I think had the name, safe in it..I cant remember, and wanted to know if it worked

I could do that, would it work OK...my room is small and almost a box shape so I would need to do the top corners also!

You're thinking of Safe n Sound Insulation.

Create a Quiet Home with Safe’n’Sound

Seriously, you're making it too difficult on yourself. You just need to find a local insulation supplier, and buy Rockwool or Fiberglass insulation that's 3pcf (pcf = pounds per cubic foot). Brand doesn't matter.

But YOU need to look for it. Open up the phone book, search the internet. There are insulation places all over the place...because, people everywhere need insulation...

Thanks a bunch man, I think I am going to go the "safe N Sound" rout, I just read the info on the link and it looks to be the best way for me money wise, I could also use a little time doing something else like making frames...thanks again for your help!!

Safe'n'sound is cheap and effective but it is not stiff like 703. So you do
need a frame of some sort, whereas some people simply wrap 703 with
cloth and it stands up on its own.

A product that I've found more readily available than 703, is John Mansvill, Insul-Shield.
