GIK Absorbers -Space

Hi,

Is there a trick to mount em and to leave a space( how big sould this space be) between wall and absorber? I saw Ethan Winer putting a big ducktape under the absorber to keep that space.

THANKS

Some of the GIK absorbers have the air space built into them.

Take a look at their site GIK Acoustics.

This one, for instance, says it has the gap built in.

Doesn't look like it but then they're not, I believe, designed for low frequencies.

Moving them out from the wall will increase their effectiveness but you'd
really need something thicker if you're addressing low frequencies anyway.

I'm sure the guys from GIK will chime in once they finish off the turkey, so
stick around.

All of our panels have a 1-3/4" air gap built in. It's the same gap regardless of the thickness of the panel. You can add another 2-4" of air gap using PVC pipe, wood blocks or whatever else is handy though...just insert them behind the panel.

There really is no trick, just any way you can do it will work. The reason we build ours in is you can flush mount the panel which looks better when on the wall.

Depending on the product, we use mineral wool 3 pound up to 8 pound. Also we use OC 703 and OC 705. As far as fabric our standard is more of a duck finish and the upgrade fabric is Guilford of Maine

Thanks!

I mean specially for the 2' panels, and the 4' and 6' Bass Traps.

Are those OC703?

A lot of times it comes down to what we are building. When we build custom panels from our custom shop we find that the panels build is better with say 705. That would be something like a 4'x8' panel. But to answer about the 8 pound, I have found that the more dense stuff absorbs a bit more of the low end.
