Shredded paper in acoustic panels?

Hi all. Reading about making some panels, there's concern around about the safety of using insulation in panels. The room I want to make panels for is really small so I'm concerned about the breathing side of things. What effect would well packed in shredded paper have in fabric coated/wooden framed panels? I'm thinking it would be useless as a bass trap but may be handy for soaking up mid and high frequency stuff? Please share your thoughts.

Sounds like a possible fire hazard. As far as acoustic qualities I have no idea.

Porosity would be pretty high and density pretty low, so - as you suspect - it should not be viable for low frequencies.

Regarding high frequencies, there are several other types of material (mainly acoustic foam) that looks nicer, is less messy and - in some cases - isn't as much flamable as shredded paper.
